Introduction

Tasting of two different vintages of 4 different wines...No real rhyme or reason to the selections

Flight 1 (8 notes)

White
2003 Jordan Vineyard & Winery Chardonnay Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
92 points
Popped and poured at d'Vine Wine Bar tasting - Golden yellow (much darker than the 2007) honeysuckle, tropical fruit, just a rich, round and unctuous wine. relatively low Acidity. Delicious. Really thought this to be great. WOTN for me...

2007 Jordan Vineyard & Winery Chardonnay Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

popped and poured at d'Vine wine bar tasting. Much lighter in color than the 2003, had some nice acidity and a crispness to it. Some citrus up front then some green apple, with a hint of some toasted oak. nice effort
Red
2008 Valle de la Puerta Cabernet Sauvignon Argentina, La Rioja, Famatina Valley
88 points
Popped and poured at d'Vine wine bar tasting, then revisited about 90 min later. Dark fruit on the nose carries to the palate, surprisingly approachable at such a young age, could use a bit more acidity to it. Not complex but drank easily. A great QPR at about $11 or so, would buy this as a daily drinker.

popped and poured at a d'Vine wine bar tasting then revisited about 90 min later. Way to early to drink this, but it was part of a drink different vintages of the same wine tasting. Had the same profile as the 2008 with dark fruit, but had yet to come together. not as balanced, fruit not as bright, was actually a little closed up. No rating, but will probably be similar to the 2008 with a little time.

popped and poured and d"vine wine bar tasting. Interesting wine, straddled the fence between new and old world with upfront dark red fruits, but not too over the top and with decent acidity and some balance. solid if unspectacular effort

Popped and poured at a d'Vine wine bar tasting...similar to the 2004, but perhaps with a bit less upfront fruit, and a bit more earth. Got some some nice cherry fruit with a bit of spice. Very drinkable, not remarkable...Liked it a hint more than the 2004...

2003 Abundance Vineyards Old Vine Zinfandel Mencarini Vineyard USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi
82 points
popped and poured at d"vine wine bar tasting. Strawberry Jam for days...super strong on the nose, and super strong on the palate. I love a big fruit forward wine and this was too over the top for me. No spice, no nothing but big sweet strawberry jam...almost reminded me of a barossa shiraz more than a zin...

popped and poured at a d"vine wine bar tasting - Very similar to the 2003 in that it is just a Strawberry Jam fruit bomb that is almost obnoxious in the amount of fruit that punches you in the face...I like a good fruit forward wine, but this was too much for me...Very simple...too over the top for my liking...
