A nosegay of baked fruit with a hint of oak.
Sweet attack, jammy, balanced, tannic but very soft, fruity mid palate, ready.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Citran France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
88 points
A bit of development on the nose, quite sweet and fruity but not jammy.
Delicious, slightly oaky, sweet ripe fruit, silky with a dry finish.

Flight 3 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Peyrabon France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
80 points
Baked blackcurrants on the nose.
Sweet but tannic attack, a little treacly, maybe dried fruit in the finish, rather short.

Flight 4 (1 note)

Red
2003 L'Esprit de Chevalier France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
85 points
A bouquet of some red fruit with the expected black fruits, a bit of oak and a touch of meatiness.
Very sweet attack, quite jammy a little tannin but soft and manageable, peppery finish, this wine is ready now.

Flight 5 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Haut-Bages Libéral France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
87 points
Quite fragrant, blackcurrant with a bit of oak.
Fruity, marked tannins tasting tough, lots of promise, not yet ready, try again in 4 - 5 years.

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Cantemerle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
83 points
Oaky at first then the nose develops fruity and meaty notes.
Very sweet with gentle tannins, drinking quite well now but could improve over the next 5 years.

Flight 7 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Labégorce-Zédé France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
90 points
Nicely perfumed, meaty with some fruit.
Sweet, fruity and spicy, concentrated and balanced, still quite tannic, just about drinkable now but will be so much better in 5 years.

Flight 8 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Léoville Barton La Réserve de Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
94 points
Youthful with fresh ripe fruit.
Oaky, still very fruity and tannic, complex and concentrated, needs keeping 5 - 10 years.

Flight 9 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château Chasse-Spleen France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc
89 points
Delicate nose, mature but still fruity.
Gorgeous mouth, sweet attack, still fruity and good for the next 5 years.

Flight 10 (1 note)

Red
2003 Château d'Aiguilhe France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
84 points
A very different nose, earthy, treacly, complex.
Raisins in the mouth, spicy, tannic, somehow past its best, dries out in the mid palate and then disappears very quickly.
