Introduction
Picked a good day to stop by the store!
Flight 1 (5 notes)
White - Sparkling
N.V. Nicolas Maillart Champagne Premier Cru Platine
91 points
Another really nice bottle of Champagne (from 375ml) from Maillart. Thought this was a bit rockier than I remembered in the past. Great job!
White
2008 Domaine Servin Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot
90 points
A pretty dense chablis for a 2008 - this was full of briny tones, white peaches, smokey minerals, and oak. Palate was lush, but precise with nice citrus flavors and seashells. This is a notch below Servin's Les Clos.
White
2007 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Dürnsteiner Hollerin
90 points
Nose of lanolin, chalky minerals, white flowers and petrichor. Palate seemed a bit more reserved than bottles in the past...have to wonder if this wine is shutting down.
Red
2006 Domaine Chevillon-Chezeaux Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Bousselots
89 points
This wine was pure sappy red fruit, with a bit of tree bark and spice. I thought the palate was very accessible at this stage and would have loved to drink this with a roasted chicken or pork tenderloin. Very nice wine!
Red
2006 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes - Coeur de Roy
Really hard to get a read on this wine. It had been triple decanted and slow ox'd for 6 hours prior to serving. Still very tightly wound with only dark fruit and brambles emerging. Won't be opening anymore of these for another couple of years.
