Introduction

Visit of the israel-Wines forum to Vitkin Winery in Kfar Vitkin. We had a short visit in the very small winery and then a tasting. We were hosted by Asaf Paz, winemaker and one of the owners of the winery. Asaf also is one of the winemakers in Binyamina Winery.

Flight 1 - One Rose & one White (2 notes)

Rosé
2010 Vitkin Pink Israeli Journey Israel
87 points
A blend of Tempranillo, Syrah and Carignan. Very refreshing in the nose and in the palate. Nice balanced acidity. Very nice wine.
White
2009 Vitkin Riesling Israel, Judean Hills, Ella Valley
89 points
Light straw yellow color. Very refreshing. Nice acidity and aromas of citrus. Fresh fruits in the palate too. A bit oily. Good wine. Better than the reds (23$).

Flight 2 - Vitkin Carignane vertical (4 notes)

Red
2009 Vitkin Carignan Israel
89 points
Not in the market yet. Purple-black color. Very expressive and powerful nose with lots of dark, ripe fruits and chocolate. Medium to full body, medium acidity and angular tannins. Needs time to soften. I expected for more structure.
Red
2008 Vitkin Carignan Israel
86 points
Purple-black color. In the nose – an attack of sherry and dark fruits. Medium bodied drying-mouth tannins. Lack of structure and balance. I didn't like it.
Red
2007 Vitkin Carignan Israel
89 points
In the 2007 vintage, a 5% Grenache was added. Expressive nose, with red fruits and alcohol. Softer than the ' 09, full bodied but also a bit hollow. Short finish.
Red
2005 Vitkin Carignan Israel

Still with an impressive purple-almost black color. Alcoholic dark/ripe fruits I and flowers in the nose. Full bodied, still with drying-mouth, rough tannins. Low acidity and short finish.
