Vintage Wines Sand Diego Pinot Tasting

Introduction

Looking forward to a Pinot tasting but came away very disappointed with nothing above 90. Perhaps it was just an off tasting day for me.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2008 Raptor Ridge Pinot Noir Reserve USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
87 points
Did not enjoy the distinctive nose - a spicy, funky sort of thing - and it was hard to recover from that. Touch of cinnamon on palate but nothing special there either. Note: retasted from a 375 I had laying around and it was better. Nose was more standard red fruit so I upgrade the score from 85 to 87.
Red
2009 Penner-Ash Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
89 points
Vintage Wines San Diego Tasting - cherry nose, nice balance, enjoyable but nothing special
Red
2009 Dragonette Cellars Pinot Noir Sta. Rita Hills USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
89 points
Vintage Wines San Diego Pinot Tasting - Bit of blackberry on the nose with some caramel undertones. Nice on the attack but gives way to a bitter finish. Will score higher if finish improves.
Red
2009 Meiomi Pinot Noir USA, California
85 points
Vintage Wines Sand Diego Tasting. A lot of people think this is a great value wine but I just haven't seen it it with this 2009 or the 2008. Cotton candy on the nose with a bit of pepper. Cola and candyish palate that I jut don't enjoy much. This just never comes together for me.
Red
2009 Expression Pinot Noir 44° Eola - Amity Hills USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
85 points
Vintage Wines San Diego Tasting - Another odd nose for me with a combination of spices that didn't work. Came across kind of green to me and didn't get the fruit and elegant touch I expect from oregon.
