Introduction

A nice event with an overall view of Tuscan reds. Really only one bad wine for the price point. I was impressed with the Oreno and it was the groups wine of the night along with the Giramonte.

Flight 1 (8 notes)

2004 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

My last bottle and a bit on the decline. I should have bought more of the 04 Rancia when I had a chance. Rustic, floral, raspberry and minerals. Improved slightly with more air but this wine should be consumed within a year.

2007 Fattoria Viticcio Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

More fruit forward style with cherry, raspberry, floral and minerals. Drinking well right now and a good overall value.

Wonderful wine for the money. I have had this wine a few times and always have been impressed. More New World in style with blackberries, dark cherry, oak, vanilla and spice. Should improve a bit with age but for under $25 what a great offering.

2004 Il Poggione (Proprietá Franceschi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva Vigna Paganelli Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

This wine needs to develop and I hope it does based on the big scores it received. Red currents, leather, wood, blueberries, mushrooms and spice. There is a lot of interesting aspects to the wine but it is not real concentrated. I would advise cellaring for five years or more.

2003 San Giusto a Rentennano Percarlo Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

The disappointment of the night. Very subtle wine and this will not improve. Raspberry, coffee, subtle oak and licorice. Short to medium finish. This would be great if it sold for $15 or less.
Red
2006 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Il Bosco Italy, Tuscany, Cortona

Nice, dark color. A real nice surprise from Tuscany. Very Rhone like with white pepper, olives, earth, blueberries and minerals. No Eucalyptuses thank goodness. Medium to long finish and drinking well with just an hour decant. Should be a nice wine to cellar for five years or more.
Red
2006 Marchesi de' Frescobaldi Giramonte Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Solid wine with raspberry, leather, cassis, blueberries and earth. This wine is balanced and has a nice finish. I could see a wide variety of wine drinkers enjoying this wine. Drink now or hold. Decanted one hour and one Vinturi.

2005 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

My wine of the night. Last bottle was off so I am glad to see this one showing really well and I need to buy a few more of these. Olives, spice, pepper, dark fruits and minerals. Concentrated wine and long finish. I love the blend of Merlot and Sangiovese. Decanted one hour and one Vinturi.
