Red
2003 Domaine Rossignol Trapet Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
flawed
Tasted double blind. Fresh red cherry to start but the wine became less clear and pristine fairly quickly. After 20-25 minutes this came across as somewhat muddy. While this could be a 2003 falling apart quite quickly, I'm inclined to think this was a flawed bottle.

2009 Domaine Denis Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

Bright black fruit on nose. Needs some time to integrate oak, but that will only take a year or two. Really wonderful spice on nose and palate. Flavors slightly less black than nose, with black and red cherry, then even some intense strawberry. Power picks up in middle, with elegant tannins and acidity providing great texture and energy on finish.

Sweet fruit with Asian five-spice on nose. Earthy flavors, slightly dirty. Moderate length. Not close to the level of bottles from several years back, why have I kept my last few this long?

Tasted double blind. Ripe and intense black fruit with lots of super intense spice. Same black fruit on palate with big intensity. Borderline overripe, but this has enough structure and acidity that the wine comes across as concentrated. I guess this is something quite new, certainly quite interesting.

Tasted double blind. Fading black fruit lost behind some fairly solid tannins.
Red
2001 Schloss Proschwitz Dornfelder Trocken Sachsen Germany, Sachsen

Tasted double blind. Repulsive, vegetal, rotten nose. Palate was worse.
Red
2008 K Vintners Syrah Royal City USA, Washington

Tasted double blind. clearly New World in every way, showing big, lush black fruit. Moderate spice. Reasonable balance, drinking well now and probably for a few years.
Red
1985 Château Léoville Poyferré France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Tasted double blind. Red currant and black cherry on nose, similar on palate. Lean fruit, not much spice, acid is quite prominent from first taste through to finish.
Red
1998 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Tasted double blind. Spicy black fruit on nose accompanied by very charming spice showing cocoa, rosemary, white pepper. Palate shows both black cherry and red cherry, also nicely spiced, with very well integrated tannins and acidity providing wonderful mouth feel and finish.

Tasted double blind. Red fruit, seemed much older than 2004, no Vosne spice, not much charm. Slightly bitter on finish.
White
