Flight 1 (14 notes)

Red
2008 Lagier Meredith Syrah USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder
93 points
Beautiful, floral perfumed and not overwhelming pepper or gamey. The next day it was even better.
Red
2004 Kosta Browne Pinot Noir Kanzler Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
90 points
I appreciate that someone shared this bottle with us, I appreciate that many people enjoy this hot hedonistic style of pinot noir, but I personally do not. It was hotter than balls, thick and syrupy but somewhat tasty.
Red
2006 Marcassin Pinot Noir Marcassin Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
92 points
I had always heard that Marcassin PNs were big hot messes (like the 04 KB Kanzler I tasted before this.) I was expecting to hate this but rather enjoyed it. Yes it is a big one, but with adequate aeration and the proper cellar temperature, it showed earthy, spicy and fruity qualities.
Red
2008 Williams Selyem Pinot Noir Vista Verde Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, San Benito County
90 points
I'm a regular WS customer but had not tried Vista Verde, I tend to stick with the Sonoma appellation and SVD bottlings. I was slightly let down by this, it was much bigger and hotter than I would expect...and this was being poured next to KB and Marcassin! I still have a 2006 and 2009 in my cellar, hoping for a better showing.
Red
2008 Westerhold Family Vineyards Syrah Westerhold Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Bennett Valley
90 points
Perfumed and candied fruit nose, oak, pepper, slightly jammy. Alcohol is surprisingly balanced.
Red
1998 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Laurence France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
93 points
Dry, oak, olive, espresso, pepper. Very nice.
Red
2009 Ketcham Estate Pinot Noir Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
89 points
A juicy, fruit forward crowd pleaser.
Red
2004 Hundred Acre Vineyard Shiraz Summer's Block Ancient Way Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
92 points
This was in a large tasting so sparse notes. Lighter in body than I thought it would be, incredible nose.
Red
2010 Wren Hop Pinot Noir Stolen Crown USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
91 points
Bottled the week before I tasted it and you can tell. Young cherry fruit, tobacco. A BIG pinot that needs more time but a lot to like here.
Red
2009 Continuum Proprietary Red USA, California, Napa Valley
94 points
Light (by CA standards) complex and lovely.
At a tasting with many other highly regarded wines (Schrader, Colgin, SQN, Hundred Acre and more) , this may have been WOTN for me.
Red
2009 Carter Cellars Hossfeld Coliseum USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Good fruit, floral, pepper and meaty.
Red
2009 Myriad Cellars Petit Verdot USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford
89 points
Someone brought this to a tasting; although I appreciate it, this really needs years more time in the bottle. Incredibly rich nose of floral and fruit.
Red
1987 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Red Rock Terrace USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
92 points
I would have guessed BDX. dry, earth and green olive flavors. lovely!
Red
1986 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Georges de Latour Private Reserve USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
floral, perfumed, dusty, oak, mushroom, green olive. What a treat!
