Introduction

Stopped by Domaine before dinner and got to taste some bottles that were lying around.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2006 Noël Verset Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
91 points
Just a baby, but the fruit is concentrated and pure with a peppery underbelly that I would guess materializes into the exotic beasts that these wines typically become. Won't touch mine for a long time - thinking 2024-2030.
Red
2010 Domaine Pierre Savoye Beaujolais-Villages Élégance France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages
74 points
A simplistic, juicy Beaujolais. Had the dark berry gamay character, but didn't have the nice earthy tones that you get with some of the better cuvees.
Red
2010 Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC
86 points
I find that it takes these wines a bit of time to open up. The 2006 seems to be drinking well these days, so it was no surprise to me that this was a bit unyielding and tough. I could sense the red fruit and brambly earth underneath the tannins, but it'll take some time for them to emerge. I'd hold for 3-5 years.
Red
2009 Jean-Marc Millot Savigny-lès-Beaune France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
86 points
A straightforward Burgundy with sappy red fruit tones, nice spices and subtle earth undertones. Feel like a couple years might turn the flavors a bit more exotic but at the present time this is nice pinot noir.
