Introduction

Excellent tasting conducted by Hilah

Flight 1 - Chardonnay (2 notes)

White
2007 Louis Jadot Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
Tasted blind. Highly mineral. A bit fat, high acidity and bitterness on the finish. 15 months in new+used oak
White
2007 Clos de Gat Chardonnay Israel, Judean Hills
89 points
Smells "old" – nuts, caramel. Full bodied, well integrated acidity. Interesting and complex – but strange.

Flight 2 - Pinot Noir (2 notes)

Red
2007 Bouchard Père et Fils Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Les Lavières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
90 points
Tasted blind. Faded ruby color. Complex and interesting on the nose – flowered and earth aromas. Light bodied, soft but predominant tannins, long finish
Red
2007 Pelter Pinot Noir T-Selection Israel, Galilee
88 points
Tasted blind. Closed and unexpressive compared to the previous wine in the flight. A bit alcoholic on the nose. Round and "hot" on the palate. Light acidity.

Flight 3 - Bordeaux Blend (2 notes)

Red
2008 Domaine du Castel Grand Vin Judean Hills Israel, Judean Hills
90 points
Tasted blind. Closed. Some ripe fruits and earthiness on the nose. A bit alcoholic. In contrast to the nose – a lot of fruit on the palate. Still with rough tannins and good acidity. Should be kept for a few more years and soften with time.
Red
2001 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Tasted blind. The original intension was to taste the '08 vintage "against" Castel Grand Vin '08, but because of a blessed mistake, we got the '01 vintage instead. It was an unfair match. Excellent wine, expressive and complex, with ripe fruits, farm and earthy smells on the nose. Medium bodied, good acidity and almost undistinguishable tannins. Mach complex and interesting than the Grand Vin.

Flight 4 - Cabernet-Shiraz blend (2 notes)

Red
2005 Anwilka South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
92 points
Tasted blind. This wine has matured and developed excellent complexity. Still very fruity (ripe/black) and farm odors. A lot of fruits on the palate too. Excellent body – full and round. With very good acidity and soft tannins
Red
2008 Golan Heights Winery Yarden Rom Israel, Galilee, Golan Heights
92 points
Tasted blind. Bombastic. A lot of fruit on the nose and the palate. Sweet. Fullbodied and round. Excellent balance. Typical to Yarden series.

Flight 5 - Granache blend (2 notes)

Red
2008 Château Golan Geshem (Grenache, Syrah & Mourvedre) Israel, Galilee, Golan Heights
91 points
Tasted blind. On the nose – red fruits, flowers. A bit alcoholic. Good harmony – a lot of fruit on the palate too. Full bodied. Still rough – both acidity and tannins. Excellent but it should cool down for a couple of years.
Red
2008 Clos Mogador Priorat Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
92 points
Tasted blind. Excellent, typical nose – very hard to define – fruits mixed with "stinky" odors that altogether give a unique, complex wine. Full bodied a lot of fruits on the palate. Nice tannins, good balance. Very good!
