Flight 1 - Roulot (3 notes)
An impressive trio of village Meursaults with good fidelity to their respective vintages
White
2009 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux
Yellow. Rich hazelnut Meursault nose. Medium weight, excellent texture, touched by wood, but the balance is impressive due to the strong acidity for the vintage.
White
2008 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux
Medium yellow, slighter lighter than the '09. More citrus and less nuttiness than the younger wine. More lively citrus, minerality and overall drive. Superb mouthfeel and density. Chalky and long. This was truly excellent and my favorite of these 3 Meursaults.
White
2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Meix Chavaux
Medium yellow. Distinctly lactic nose. Creamy and long, if a little lower in acidity and concentration than the 2008. Still very fine.
Flight 2 - Girardin (3 notes)
Modern and woody
Red
2005 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Beaune 1er Cru Bressandes
Medium color. Spicy nose with red fruits. Big, sappy and woody. All in all, kind of an unrefined brute. Hardly a paradigm of finesse.
Red
2005 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets
Medium ruby. Fragrant. Lighter and airier than the Beaune but still marked by wood that provides the sap. Good acidity, lacking in mid-palate intensity. Not bad but hardly inspiring Volnay.
Red
2005 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Corton-Perrières
Deep color. More restrained, stony aromatics than the other 2 wines. Ripe, rich entry with a very woody base, but good, firm finishing tannins.
