Introduction

Littorai, Burn Cottage and Evesham Wood tasting with a Txakoli and a bargain Oregon Pinot thrown in as well.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2011 Crittenden Estate Los Hermanos Saludo al Txakoli Australia, Victoria, North East, King Valley
90 points
A delicious, floral and musky nose that's almost sweet, with a streak of lemon that leads to a mineral palette with some bite and a soft fleshy finish.
Red
2011 Cashburn Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
91 points
An interesting phosphor and green stalk nose that is very expressive, despite it's young age. The palette is savoury and full of interesting, spicy acid.
Red
2011 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
93 points
The nose is full of ripe, red fruits, but is balanced with savouries and a struck match edge. The palette is full of beautiful tannins with balancing acid and an interesting smokiness.

There is a dusty and earthy note to the currant and spice laden nose that leads to the succulent palette that shows great ageing potential.

Red
2005 Littorai Pinot Noir Mays Canyon USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
94 points
A nose of raspberry, red currants and earth spice, laced with cherry liquor. The palette shows a great tannin profile which is chewy and while there is a bit of warmth there, it is well balanced. This is just superb.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Red
2009 Union Wine Company Pinot Noir Kings Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
92 points
A cheap and cheerful number, with red berries and smokey wood on the nose and a cherry palette with plenty of spice. This is exceptional wine for the price.
Red
2011 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
91 points
The wine presents delicate florals up front and the overall profile is very spicy with full tannins to back it up.
Red
2010 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Illahe USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
94 points
A big powerful meaty nose which is savoury and full of cherry with chewy tannins and textural goodness all round.
Red
2010 Evesham Wood Pinot Noir Le Puits Sec USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
95 points
There is a bold nose of smoked small goods with dried herbs and bright red fruit. The palette is textured with good tannin weight and a delicious cherry finish.
