Introduction

Tried to gather a diverse group of Champagnes from different producers / styles / disgorgement dates / formats.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White - Sparkling
1996 Ruinart Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
87 points
Average number of bubbles for its age. Some chlorine (public pool) upfront, but it faded away with time. Some flowery aromas, also peculiar old leather, old clothes smells. Quite light on the palate, some apples, notes of grapefruit, long finish. (B)
White - Sparkling
1992 Drappier Champagne Carte d'Or Brut France, Champagne
92 points
(Disgorged in July 2012) In the beginning there was a strange syntetic rubber smell, but it faded away. Lots of bubbles, dark, as usual. Dense, concentrated, sweet and sour nose. Also - port, burnt sugar, honey aromas. Honey and exotic fruits on the palate. This wine has changed over the previous months and I liked this bottle the best comparing to previous three. Really interesting now. (A-)
White - Sparkling
1983 Taittinger Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
80 points
Very yeasty (kvass), no fruits left, only raisins. Butter on palate, burnt sugar. (C+)
White - Sparkling
1990 Moët & Chandon Champagne Brut Impérial France, Champagne
83 points
Magnum, disgorged in 1999.
Quite fresh and open. Nose of meat, boiled beef tongue. Interesting sweet and sour finish of quince. Empty midpalate, classic and straightforward but a bit simplistic. (B-)
White - Sparkling
1974 Deutz Champagne Brut Millésimé France, Champagne
91 points
Vinotheque - recently disgorged.
Very fresh, but not expressive, light bitterness on the finish. Fudge on the nose and palate. (B+)
White - Sparkling
2002 Pol Roger Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
90 points
Fresh, light, lots of small bubbles, typical, a bit sharp and edgy comparing to more mature bottles of champagne. Light brioche/yeastiness. (B+)
White - Sparkling
1966 Lanson Champagne Red Label France, Champagne
93 points
Must have been perfectly stored.
Quite light colour, almost no bubbles, but comparatively very fresh. Lanson doesn't do malolactic so that the wines develop slower and are more for the long haul and it proves itself here! Light nutty aromas, some brioche/toasted bread, dried roses. We were quite lucky to have this bottle. (A-)
