Introduction

Mostly BYO blinded bottles

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
1986 Pol Roger Champagne Blanc de Chardonnay France, Champagne
91 points
Blind. Rich, obviously some dosage, freshly baked bread, only moderate acidity, developed and full, very pleasing.

White - Sparkling
1982 Joseph Perrier Champagne Cuvée Royále France, Champagne
92 points
Very fresh mouse, more than most bottles; Mature, verging on some oxidative notes; fresh, slightly bitter, quite dry, long. Energetic.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White
1998 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
88 points
Honey, camphor, some nuts; decent length, fresh. I found it interesting, others just a wreck.
White
1995 Bonneau du Martray Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
flawed
Corked. Perhaps premox as well.
White
2004 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
94 points
Blind. quite full, rounded, a hint of sweetness, fatty, but nonetheless rather structured, fairly long.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
1982 Mommessin Clos de Tart France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de Tart Grand Cru
84 points
Clear brown, lots of sediments, some tannins, but basically far over the hill. What a shame.
Red
1973 Patriarche Père et Fils Corton-Le Corton Réserve du Bastion des Dames France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
83 points
Developed, warm, slightly pruney, over the hill.
Red
1999 Christophe Roumier Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
93 points
Blind. Slight bricking, dark; dark deep fruit, smoke, flint, complex nose with some tobacco; long finish, verging on being complex, obviously very young. I left it a glass for 5-6 hours and there was some development (albeit overrun by some spectacular wines later)

Flight 4 (5 notes)

Red
1979 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
87 points
Some bricking, dark core; tobacco, some cellar, some brett?; fresh and long in the mouth, sweet-and-sour, fairly tannic, structured. Not entirely correct?
Red
1979 Château Pavie France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
flawed
Initial a warm and interesting wine, rapidly grew into a TCA monster.
Red
1979 Château Lafite Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
flawed
Utterly oxidized. Cork was disintegrating though.
Red
1975 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
flawed
Warm, some cooked notes, thinning in the mouth. Heat damaged?
Red
2000 Antinori Solaia Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
86 points
A lot of warm fruit; an initial fruit attack that rapidly dwindled into a weakish wine, some tobacco, heavily extracted of course.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
1966 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Blind. Dark core, bricking; Tobacco, tough, decent complexity, actually quite structured, but a bit short, a lot of dark berries towards blackthorn. When its identity was revealed, quite impressed with its liveliness.
Red
1947 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Blind. Detailed wine, floral, quite tough acidity and tannins, long and fresh. A one-note song, but a good one.
Red
1989 Domenico Clerico Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Blind. Abundant dosage of flakey sediments. Camphor, pine tree, impressive, licorice, tobacco, still structured. I was never in Piemonte, but I liked it more than others, perhaps struck more prematurely with palate fatigue?

Flight 6 (3 notes)

Red
1990 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
94 points
Blind. Youthful, graphite, tobacco, dark fruit; deep fruit in the mouth as well, a hint of sweetness, mighty - still structured. Never doubted that it was a West Bank.
Red
1996 Château Mouton Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
96 points
Blind. A violent attack of fruit and tannins in good proportions, spicy - almost exotic, fruit sweetness, dark berries, appears slightly unintegrated (if that is a word in English?), rich, utterly impressive, youthful. Rating for now. WOTN

Red
1986 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
96 points
Blind. Balanced, smoky, quite rich, fine length, deep black berry fruit with just a hint of tertiary development, develops with air, balanced and complex, very structured, some peppers. Suggested CB 96

Flight 7 (3 notes)

Red
1982 Casa Ferreirinha Douro Barca Velha Portugal, Douro
93 points
Deep fruit, complex nose, some heat, tobacco; a fresh and quite structured mouthfeel, very fine length. Structured, quite rustic, still quite interesting due to its complexity.
Red
1966 Casa Ferreirinha Douro Barca Velha Portugal, Douro
95 points
A gorgeous wine, finally coming into its mellowed drinking phase, intriguing complexity. Middle aged and confident masculinity without its youthful and awkward excesses. Like a dry Taylor 1963.
Red
1999 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore
92 points
Blind. Very dark, violent, bark, tannin and acidity, dried fruits, dry tobacco (not typical sweet pipe tobacco), long. To appreciate it, you have to go with the ride. I liked the fare far more than others.

White - Off-dry
2004 Karthäuserhof Eitelsbacher Karthäuserhofberg Riesling Auslese Nr. 55 Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
Blind. Flowers, white chocolate, extremely fresh, fine sweetness, baby fat, not much noticeable botrytis, candy for grown ups. Rating for now.

White - Sweet/Dessert
1992 Wegeler Geisenheimer Rothenberg Riesling Eiswein Germany, Rheingau
83 points
Apricots, some sweetness, simple - best forgotten.
White - Fortified
1930 Domaine Sarrat Rivesaltes Blanc France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Rivesaltes
83 points
Blind. Didn't go well with the Tiramisu. Lots of VA, which blew off after while - but not entirely. Some sweetness, but fell almost completely dry in the company it kept with other good sweet wines. No clue.
White - Off-dry
2008 Schloss Lieser Niederberg Helden Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
94 points
Floral, extremely balanced, light-footed and fresh, still very sweet.

Flight 9 (2 notes)

Night cap, in the cellar

Red
1994 Dominus Estate Napanook Vineyard USA, California, Napa Valley
94 points
Tasted at 4 AM at 13 degrees Celsius in the cellar. Giving little initially, remembered as very Bordeaux-like, at least with some warming, structure, yet a hint of sweetness.
White
2002 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
92 points
Typicity in order, perhaps lacking a bit in concentration, as did perhaps the rater?
