Introduction

Huge thanks as always to the participants! Bob and Fernando, Eric and Suzanne and Kenny!
We are always glad to have friends over. And to open some wines as well :)

Flight 1 (1 note)

White - Off-dry
2002 Reichsrat Von Buhl Forster Jesuitengarten Riesling Spätlese Germany, Pfalz
92 points
YOUNG - still needs time. More of an auslese than a spat. Rich, with peach and apricot fighting through pineapple and mango. Long finish. great acidity. Very good now but will improve.

Flight 2 (5 notes)

Red
1985 Joseph Drouhin Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
92 points
fully mature. Sweet spices, forest/mushrooms, some red fruit on the nose. Masculine wine with good acidity. Mainly secondary in the mid - with tea and spices and some cherry. medium finish. very smooth. i liked this a lot.
Red
1978 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
my WOTN. true cab nose - pencil, some mint, ripe rich fruit. Young in the middle. resolved but not losing its grip. plum and currant. some leather as well. just a pleasure to drink!
Red
2000 Bodegas y Viñedos del Contino Rioja Contino Reserva Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
92 points
Rich vanilla, ripe notes. powerful fruit. spices coming in with more time. red and black fruit dominating the middle. with time more soy. long finish. young wine indeed and more fruit than i expected. Rustic but well balanced.
Red
2004 Terralsole Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
91 points
Very modern on the nose. had to go back and make sure i poured the right wine... ripe and vanilla dominate. in the middle there are signs of sangiovese - with cherry notes and good acidity. very ripe. tannins are there but not distracting. Perhaps awkward stage?
Red
1999 Judd's Hill Cabernet Sauvignon Estate USA, California, Napa Valley
90 points
Maybe i will like it more tomorrow? Ripe, lots of oak, lacking acidity with a lot of fruit in the mid but woody and not refreshing on the finish. Just not my cup of tea.

Flight 3 (1 note)

White - Sweet/Dessert
2006 Château de Malle France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
89 points
honey, orange, some apricot. rich but good middle. touch soft on finish. very pleasant.
