Flight 1 (2 notes)

The 2 Bords were poured blind, but that was rather pointless as the identities were quite apparent.

Red
2003 Château Sénéjac France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
86 points
Double decanted. Slightly lighter color, and more red than purple, with the edges veering towards garnet. Nose is somewhat funky, with a vegetal/mushroom component (this becomes less prominent with more air). In the mouth it's juicy and sweet, with the herbaceousness playing a minor role. There's surprisingly little tannin noticeable here, even with extensive chewing.
Red
2003 Château Fleur Cardinale France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
91 points
Double decanted. Dark maroon-purple. Moderately expressive and most definitely very ripe nose of earth and oak. Entry features suggestion of earth, then broadens into a sweet midpalate. This, too, sweetened with air, with plum-accented-by-currant fruit emerging. Finishes long and strong, with serious tannins that are remarkably round and not drying in the least. A very successful example of an extracted, modern style. Should smooth out with a few years.

Flight 2 (1 note)

Red
2001 Shadow Canyon Cellars Syrah Shadow Canyon Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, York Mountain
89 points
Pop-and-pour. Dark red-violet, edges still vibrant. Bold aromas of blue/blackberries and vanilla, and a tiny bit of heat too. Flavors are a bit more restrained and cool-edged than the nose. Full-bodied and mouthfilling. No heat, but a bit prickly; not seamless by any means, even compared to the young Bordeaux that preceded it.
