Nose of smoked meat, salty, pronounced minerality, there's thyme and herbs and some spicy menthol notes. Later come brambly fruits and dark cherries. Mildly fruity on the palate, calm tannins, good balance. There's some pickle on the finish. Very enticing mature syrah, WOTN for me and the group.
Red
1995 Jean-Luc Colombo Côtes du Rhône France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

Corky smell.
Light, easy drinking style. Sweetish nose and palate of overripe raspberries, iodine, some farmyard, old leather. Good balance, even elegant.
Red
1997 Tenimenti d'Alessandro Syrah Cortona Il Bosco Italy, Tuscany, Cortona
91 points
This was all about very ripe, intense dark fruits. Nose of meat, sweetness, a bit of herbs and peppermint. Almost heavy on the palate with cherry pit and Parma ham, noticeable tannins, high accidity. Comparatively loud, but very good syrah. Gets more elegant with air.
Red
1997 M. Chapoutier Côte-Rôtie La Mordorée France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
93 points
Burgundian look alike. There were animal notes, dried herbs, hay, a bit of Christmas spices and olives. Medium light body, superb mouthfeel. Excellent.
Red
2009 Viña San Pedro Syrah 1865 Limited Edition Chile, Elqui Valley
89 points
Very strong vegetal character, like drinking a falafel or some dish made of peas. Peculiar how different this is from 2007 and 2010.
Red
2011 Bernard Faurie Hermitage Greffieux-Bessards France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
89 points
Sweet chocolate, coffee, violets, brambly fruits, very intense nose. Inky, jammy, cherry, cassis, mint, very young, good potential.
Red
2012 Castell d’Encús Costers del Segre Thalarn Spain, Catalunya, Costers del Segre
87 points
Young and strong, good with food, but really shouldn't be drunk now, too much of a fruit bomb at this stage, lacks elegance.
