White - Sparkling

Intense bubbling for a champaign of this age. Quite oxidative style with almomds, brioche, citrus fruit and green apple. Med-full bodied with bright acidity and good length.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

White
2012 Domaine de la Grange des Pères Vin de Pays de l'Hérault Blanc France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Vin de Pays de l'Hérault
95 points
A fantastic white. The nose is reminiscent of a top Rhone white with nectarine, apricot, marzipan, orange zest and tropical fruit like mango. Full-bodied, dense and oily-textured with huge extract and almost low acidity. Endless aftertaste. Excellent.
White
2012 Cullen Wines Chardonnay Kevin John Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
93 points
Easily recognisable as a high end new world chardonnay. Mellon, tropical fruit, sweet oak and buttery notes on the nose. Full-bodied, rich and generous. yet perfectly balanced with a long aftertaste. Drinks nicely but might improve further with mid-term cellaring.
White
2004 Jim Barry Riesling The Florita Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley
88 points
Immediately recognized as an aged aussie riesling. Petrol, beeswax, honey and citrus fruit. Medium-bodied, evolved with balancing acidity and a med-long aftertaste.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

Red
2011 Mullineux Syrah Schist South Africa, Coastal Region, Swartland
95 points
A stunning wine. More on the elegant side. On the nose it is reminiscent of a high end Burgundy rather than a syrah. Floral and complex nose with red cherry and verry fruit, spices and herbs. Medium-bodied, soft and balanced with a long aftertaste.

Red
2008 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
94 points
Complex and elegant nose of forrest floor, cherries, aromatic herbs and spices. Medium-bodied, soft and elegant with bright fruit and balancing acidity. Long aftertaste.
Red
2005 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
94 points
Very dark ruby. Powerful and sweet nose with excessive oak at this stage but the blackberry fruit is so powerful that will take over after ceveral years of cellaring. Full-bodied, rich and generous but still a baby. Long aftertaste. Cellar for at least another 5 years.

Flight 4 (3 notes)

Red
2003 Château Lafite Rothschild France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
97 points
Complex nose of barnyard, leather, grafite, cedar and cassis. A tour de force on the palate. Medium-bodied with textbook tannins, bright fruit without the tell-tale 2003 jammyness, moderate alcohol and perfect balance. Long aftertaste. Drinking perfectly already but will age.
Red
1970 Bodegas Vega-Sicilia Ribera del Duero Único Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
89 points
This was quite evolved and obviously past its best. Intense coffee and leather on the nose alongside truffles. Medium-bodied with soft tannins but the fruit has started to fade. Med+ aftertaste.
Red
2004 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
96 points
Medium to dark garnet. Stunning nose with violets, forrest floor, raspberries and red cherries. Medium-bodied, elegant and complex with soft tannins and balancing acidity. Long. Already enjoyable with a long life ahead.
