Flight 1 - Peay Vineyards (4 notes)

Red
2013 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
95 points
A nose of quite delicate, sweet, red fruits that are supported by a balancing lick of soil and some rose petals that brings a really interesting juxtaposition of savoury notes to the mix.

The palette is bright and vibrant with nice acidity at the edges and powdery tannins that lead to sour cherry notes on the quite mild finish.
Red
2013 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Pomarium Estate USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
93 points
This i my favourite nose of the 2013 Peays that I've looked at; it's medicinal at it's core with wild raspberry and spicy, dark fruits. The palette has focussed minerals and layered acidity and there is a long finish where cherry is the main player.

2013 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Ama Estate USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
95 points
If you're going to cellar a 2013 Peay, this is the one. The lifted complexity of the nose is a little underplayed right now although there is an interesting play of citrus peel and smoky cherry that's already quite something.

While the palette is still quite lively with a bright start and a dense acid/tanin grouping, there is clearly a lot waiting to come, with hints of the mineral balance that could show when it's opened in another 5+ year's time.
Red
2013 Peay Vineyards Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
96 points
For me, this is the pick of the Peay 2013 Pinots, with a confectionary nose that is balanced with an almost vegetal stalkiness and ripe, red currants. The wine is very dynamic and leaps out of the glass on first pour with vanilla and boysenberry ice cream being my favourite element.

The palette is racy at first, with chewy acidity and balanced minerals with a wide finish that packs plenty of length.

Flight 2 - Littorai (5 notes)

Red
2014 Littorai Pinot Noir Les Larmes USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
94 points
A bit of liquorice on this quite dark nice, with tea leaves and autumn underbrush on the nose and a spicy and lifted palette of chalky tannins and rose petals.
Red
2013 Littorai Pinot Noir Cerise Vineyard USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
96 points
A nose of forest floor and spicy earthiness laced with minerals and a layered complexity that really expresses the vineyard behind this wine.

The palette is delicate and restrained at first, but leads you towards a more open floral and fruit combination that is still framed by a tight, mineral expressiveness.
Red
2013 Littorai Pinot Noir Mays Canyon USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
95 points
The florals in this are almost pot-pourri-like with rock candy and fresh vegetal notes and delicate raspberry leaf. The Palette is tightly wound with minerals and an expressive acidity.
Red
2013 Littorai Pinot Noir The Haven USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
97 points
For me, the pick of the bunch this year is The Haven. A complex nose of forest floor, autumn leaves confectionary and bee's wax with a palette of rich and spicy plum, dark cherry and very well integrated minerals with tasty tannins.
Red
2013 Littorai Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard USA, California, North Coast, Anderson Valley
96 points
Sweet red fruits and florals with a fascinating transition to earthy smoke and minerals and a dark cherry and flower edge. The palette is chewy and complex with minerals galore and great cherry notes coming back towards the savoury finish.
