Introduction

Every participant had to bring a wine of the theme. We did not know which wines were brought by the others. All wines were tasted blind, also without knowing when the wine you brought was poured.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2009 Domaine Buisson-Battault Meursault Les Criots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
90 points
Beautiful bouquet with flowers, fresh citrus, minerals and a light touch of oak. On the palate bananas, melon and peach, mild tart lemon and some butter in the finish. A bit fat and relatively not so much acidity, but certainly an excellent wine.
White
2009 Domaine Denis Boussey Meursault Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
89 points
The toasted oak and flint stone is at first a little provocating in the nose, later there is also fresh citrus. On the palate the oak is less evident. There is a lot of tart grapefruit, lemon, gooseberry and minerality. Firm amount of bitterness. Elegant in the finish. This wine needs at least another 3+ years of ageing.

Toasted oak in the bouquet as well as on the palate. On the palate also pineapple, good fresh tart citrus, pear, nutty flavors, flint stone and a bit salty minerals. Good length. Needs a few years to integrate.

Beautiful and complex bouquet with smoky oak, flint stone, flowers, anise and some earthiness. On the palate soft lemon, white fruits and gooseberry. Complex and harmonious, focused wine with a lot of good acidity.

Beautiful bouquet with flowers and sea shell minerality. On the palate pineapple and a lot of tart citrus as well as a lot of minerals. Slight touch of oak. Very focused wine.

White
2007 Etienne Sauzet Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

A lot of flowers in the still somewhat reticent bouquet. Firm citrus and limestone minerality. Also some butter and caramel. Needs a few more years in the bottle.

Flight 4 (4 notes)

White
2008 Louis Carillon Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
93 points
Beautiful and complex bouquet with tropical fruits, minerals, flowers and pleasant oak. Mouth filling. White fruits, pineapple, tart citrus, a touch of sweetness and beautiful oak. Harmonious and focused and a beautiful wine. Already a great pleasure and with a good future.
White
2007 Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Les Tillets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
86 points
Ripe apple, rye bread and bread dough in the bouquet. Tart apple and grapefruit on the palate, also nuts and oxidized impressions. Reading the notes here, we were unlucky with this bottle. I score it nevertheless.
White
2006 Domaine Michelot Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
91 points
Tart citrus, pineapple and minerals in the bouquet. On the palate limestone minerals, pear, banana broad and a bit fat. Very intense and good length. A very intense wine which will improve with a few more years of ageing. Next bottle around 2015.
White
2005 Domaine Buisson-Battault Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
flawed
Extremely corked

Flight 5 (3 notes)

White
2004 Domaine Marc Morey & Fils Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
91 points
Beautiful and rich bouquet with tropical fruits, minerals and pleasant oak. On the palate ripe yellow and white fruits and a touch of butter candy and caramel. Exiting and harmonious wine; ready now.
White
2004 Kistler Chardonnay Les Noisetiers USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
91 points
Dark yellow. Creamy bouquet with tropical fruits and butter. On the palate very ripe fruits. Mango. Broad and very smooth. The oak has integrated nicely. Drinking it beside Burgundy wines this wine is less elegant and has more sweetness, but overall this certainly is beautiful wine.
White
2004 Domaine Lamy-Pillot Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
92 points
In the bouquet pear, melon, gooseberry and hardly any oak. On the palate tart lemon and grapefruit, beautiful minerality and a beautiful dose of oak. Full bodied and open and with an enormous length. Beautiful wine. Ready now.

Flight 6 (2 notes)

White
2001 Louis Chavy Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Champs-Gain France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
88 points
Beautiful and rich bouquet of ripe yellow fruits like apricots, minerals, honey but also something not completely fresh. On the palate a quite mature wine with elegant acidity, pineapple, butter and some bitterness in the finish. Opinions in the group differed about this wine; not completely fresh, past its prime and just ok. I scored it 88 anyway.
White
1988 Domaine Nudant Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
90 points
Intriguing bouquet with minerals of sea shells. On the palate a lot of minerals as well, limestone and volcanic. Fig bread. Caramel. Firm bitterness. A very mature wine with great length.
