Introduction

Fabulous end of year dinner and tasting. We had a great evening and tasted all wines not blind. A great evening among friends and Tim is a great Masterchef ;-)!
Sorry for the short notes about the wines; too busy socializing.

2001 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
Drank during a dinner and no formal notes. The wine is still youthful with red berries, bell pepper, some cassis, green herbs and bell pepper. Luxurious oak, firm acidity, harsh tannin and drying in the finish. This probably and almost definitely is a very good wine which can last for several decades, but I truly wonder if it will ever become a really refined Bordeaux. If not it will dry out when it becomes of serious age between 2030 and 2040. Only time can tell. I will probably not be around in 2050 to check ;-) :-(… No score for today.
Red
2003 Château Gruaud Larose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
92 points
No formal notes. The wine is still in the beginning of its maturity stage with ripe red and dark berries and round, but still a bit sticky tannin. Good acidity. Well balanced wine. Should save my last bottle for the early 2020’s.
Red
2003 Château Montrose France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
94 points
No formal notes. This wine is beautiful already, but there is still a lot of potential. Good red and dark forest fruits, luxurious oak, some green bell pepper. Waiting until 2024+ will be a good plan for my last bottle. 93 - 94+

Beautiful mature bouquet with earth and rustic flavors. On the palate earthy as well with good acidity and some pleasant bitterness in the finish. The tannin is still sticky and a bit drying.
Red

Beautiful and complex bouquet with beautiful garrigue and chocolate. On the palate beautiful acidity. Delicious and harmonious wine. Ready now and room for some more years.

Beautiful and mature bouquet with a lot of stable/barnyard and earthy impressions, but so lovely and complex. I love it! On the palate the same (pleasant) bretty flavors. Firm acidity, but in beautiful balance with the sweetness. Soft tannin. Great wine imho.

2011 Bodegas Pintia Toro Pintia Spain, Castilla y León, Toro
92 points
Just a few notes; A lot of ripe dark forest fruits, a lot of sweetness, beautifully dosed oak, good acidity and mild tannin. A wine which is easy lo like already, but has a good future as well. 92+
Red
2004 Marion Amarone della Valpolicella Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
The bouquet is a bit stinky; very mature, with celery and lovage. Special. On the palate overripe dark berries, an ok balance between acidity and sweetness, but also oxidized impressions. Not sure if this is a flawless bottle. No score.
Red
2011 Tedeschi Amarone della Valpolicella Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
90 points
Ripe dark and red berry fruits, some hints of metals, a firm dose of sweetness, but in a nice balance with the acidity.
Red
2002 Romano Dal Forno Amarone della Valpolicella Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella
95 points
Unfortunately not so many more specific notes, because this is a truly great wine. Very ripe red and dark berry fruits, a firm but good dose of luxurious oak. Good balance between acidity and sweetness. Great concentration and elegance as well.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1989 Château Climens France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
95 points
The color is surprisingly light yellow and youthful. On the palate a delicious and elegant wine with caramel, apricots, beautiful botrytis and an excellent balance between acidity and sweetness. Great and complex, still very youthful wine.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
93 points
Concentrated, almost bombastic wine with loads of botrytis and concentration. Apricots, orange peel, caramel, polishing wax. It is all there together with a huge amount of sweetness and also good acidity. Overall the wine lacks some refinement to belong to the greatest.

Red - Fortified
1994 Quinta do Vesuvio Porto Vintage Portugal, Douro, Porto
94 points
No formal notes. This Port wine is in its drinking window and showing sweet spices and sweet licorice beside the black forest fruits. Beautiful sweetness and soft tannin. Drinking beautifully now and probably for another decade.
Red
2002 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
97 points
No formal notes. Popped and poured and a bit too cold. Nevertheless a great pleasure again! What a beautiful and harmonious wine and still in its early maturity stage.
