Flight 1 - Nonblind warm ups (2 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. René-Henri Coutier Champagne Grand Cru Tradition Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
92 points
Nonblind. Abundant fruit. Orchard fruit, honeysuckle and rich yeasty notes. Picks up a subtle marshmallow quality on the palate. Fine bead. Excellent.
White
2014 Joseph Swan Vineyards Grenache Blanc Catie's Corner Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Half a bottle left from last evening. Hasn't changed much in terms of the profile with the exception of adding an interesting diesel/petrol aroma. Very tasty.

Flight 2 - Blind warm ups (2 notes)

White
2015 Antxiola Getariako Txakolina Spain, País Vasco, Getariako Txakolina
87 points
Opens with floral notes followed by mineral and melon fruit but there's an odd earthy/funky overtone that's somewhat distracting. Luckily this blows off leaving lifted floral aromatics. Flavors of white fruit and melon with a waxy quality. Has a slight spritz. For $8 on bin end, not a bad inexpensive patio wine.
White
2010 Peter Michael Chardonnay La Carrière USA, California, Sonoma County, Knights Valley
92 points
Aromas of banana, coconut and citrus with a stony/mineral background note. On the palate this shows a lot more oak than I expect from La Carriere. Citrus, coconut and tropical fruit with pear liqueur coming in on the finish. Seems young; hopefully the fruit will still be there when the oak is better-integrated.

Flight 3 - Reds (5 notes)

Red
1999 Cameron Rouge Clos Electrique USA, Oregon
93 points
As soon as I got my nose to the glass I knew this was our Cameron Clos Electrique. Aromas of bacon fat, cherry and currants. The wonderful "Cameron funk" is there too, though it's rather restrained here. Cherry, meat and pepper flavors on the palate with a medium+ finish. Love this stuff. Will likely hold for another year or two at this level.
Red
2008 Mondot France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
flawed
Double blind. Very slight; reticent. Just barely a hint of dark berry fruit. Chalky, grippy tannins with a bit of dark fruit on the palate. I am convinced this wine has some low level TCA- not enough to show the musty/cardboard notes, but just enough to strip the wine of its fruit and character. Seeing this unveiled confirms for me the low-level taint.
Red
2012 Brick House Gamay Noir Year of the Dragon Ribbon Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Ribbon Ridge
92 points
Double blind. Initial note of cherry candy followed by a subtle chemically note that blows off. Slightly astringent through the finish, cherry fruit and good underlying acidity. Really strengthens as it sits- develops a deep sweet cherry note- like a Luden's cough drop- and the fruit fills in on the finish. Lovely and pure- really bright. Thought the fruit is sweet, it works well here and isn't cloying and I really like this. Guessed CA Pinot Noir. 92+ pts.
Red
1999 Cameron Pinot Noir Arley's Leap USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
93 points
Wow, this is so much like wine A I am convinced that someone else brought a Clos Electrique too. Deep meaty dark fruit with black cherry and earth undertones. Integrated and balanced. Cherry, red plum, pepper and clay with a meaty note on the back end. Long finish. So similar to A, but better fruit carrying the finish. Guessed Cameron Clos Electrique. 93-94 pts.

I've never had an Arley's show this similar to the CE- what a surprise. Thoroughly enjoyable.
Red
2008 Tokara Director's Reserve South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
90 points
Double blind. Green, herbal Cab fruit with buttered popcorn and spice too. Medium-bodied with slight tannins and flavors of red fruit with a green streak. Guessed Cab Franc.

Flight 4 - Reds (4 notes)

Red
2005 Chateau Montelena Cabernet Sauvignon The Montelena Estate USA, California, Napa Valley, Calistoga
93 points
Double blind. Notes of blue fruit and lavender turning to black currants and dark fruit as it sits in the glass. Somewhat firm tannins with flavors of dark fruit- cassis and plum- along with hints of vanilla, earth and spice. Lengthy finish. Guessed CA Cab.

Red
2010 Magic Door Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain
92 points
Double blind. Opens with florals and blue fruit, then currants and cassis. Firm, chalky tannins. Flavors of dark fruit and currants. Develops dominant aromas/flavors of chocolate- guessed Napa Cab.
Red
2008 Domaine Olivier Hillaire Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Double blind. Aromas of Band Aid, sour cherry and white pepper. Peppery red fruit on the palate. Guessed CndP.
Red
2012 Northstar Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
91 points
Double blind. Notes of dark fruit and road tar- almost Pinotage-like, but in a good way. Loads of black fruit on the palate, along with spice and chocolate. Firm tannins. Medium+ finish. The chocolate note had me thinking Napa Cab.

Flight 5 - Reds (4 notes)

Red
2006 Robert Sinskey Vineyards Merlot Los Carneros USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
88 points
Double blind. Aromas of cranberry and cherry turn to blue fruit with underlying spice qualities. Medium-bodied with flavors of red and dark fruit with a balsamic edge.
Red
2007 Miner Family Sangiovese Gibson Ranch USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino County
Double blind. Candied cranberry with an underlying earthy note. Cherry and red fruit with noticeable acid- a bit out of balance.
Red
2011 Cayuse Cabernet Sauvignon The Widowmaker En Chamberlin Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Double blind. Deep color with aromas of dark fruit with a sour edge and a nice smoky undertone. Sour dark fruit on the palate. Guessed Syrah.
Red
2003 Cayuse Camaspelo USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Double blind. Aromas of dark fruit and tobacco with a hay/straw note in the background. The dark fruit continues on the palate. Perhaps a bit of brett here.

Flight 6 - Nonblind dinner/dessert wines (5 notes)

Red
2005 Domaine Tortochot Gevrey-Chambertin Champerrier Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin

1986 Château Raymond-Lafon France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
