This pours a light straw yellow. Initially coming across as a tad heavy on the oak. It sees 18 months in 1/3 new french oak. The nose is quite powerful of roasted cashews, marzipan, kiwi, lemon zest, overripe pear and hints of mineral. The palate is medium plus in acidity replaying much of the tart acidic fruit from the nose. Very solid wine, but didn't wow me.

I chose not to rate this as I feared the sample I tried was lightly oxidized with a bruised impression on the fruit. Regardless this seemd like a large scaled Chard. Nose of binned Apple, caramel, green apple skin, but note much else. The palate has elevated acid and a short finish. I found this lacking substance and depth.

1998 Thomas Fogarty Chardonnay Blanc de Blanc Late Disgorged USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Waaayyyyy to oxidative. Apparently they forgot about this in the cellar and are selling it at a reduced price. Still not worth it. On the initial pour this is quite dark for its age. Deep rich golden yellow. Very mature. The nose is pure apple cider, oxidized green grapes and caramel sauce. I don't think I can get into this even on an intellectual level. Not really resembling what I appreciate in traditional method sparkling in any way, even compared to champagne 20 years older than this.

This pours that beautiful SCM lightly cloudy cranberry red. The nose is wildly floral. Lavendar, dry soil, dried strawberries, potpourri, juicy ripe raspberries, pink bubblegum and a touch of of new leather. A drawback on ths nose for me is that the fruit profile is lightly candied. The palate is light and elegant with medium plus acid and lots of ripe red fruit. A touch of alcohol sticks out on the finish along with a bitter fennel seed note. Enjoyable overall, but not at all complex.

In my view this wine is a little big. Nose is of twizzlers, black licorice, candied red fruit, alcohol and lavender. Almost resembling a Rhone. This just wasn't really doing it for me.

I quite enjoyed this! The nose comes across as quite floral and almost indicative of carbonic maceration. After plenty of swirling some seemingly stemmy notes emerge which are pleasing. The nose eventually wafts smoky cumin seed, fresh crushed coriander seed, and cranberry/rasapberry giving the wine lift and complexity. Overall the aromatics are lovely but are buried today and require tremendous coaxing to reveal. The palate is quite tannic, red fruited, and is medium in acidity. I wish the finish was just a tad longer. Well done and should be quite nice in a few years time.

Pleasant enough, but I found this leaning back to the candied fruit profile and lacking in complexity. The alcohol is also noted. Not really enough there to warrant a higher score.
