Introduction

Impressive line-up of wines in combination with great dishes prepared by restaurant Vermeer.
To my opinion: best red wine 1988 Cheval Blanc, best white wine 2004 D’Auvenay

Flight 1 (14 notes)

White - Sparkling
1997 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
From Magnum. Wonderful champagne. Light yellow color, still looks young, beautiful mousse, citrus, creamy, very complex, creaminess lingers on endlessly in mouth. Also minerals and floral tones. This is a champagne to enjoy for hours at a stretch and forget all the fuss around you.

White
2011 Coche-Dury Meursault Les Rougeots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Very special wine. Nose almost vibrant, yellow fruit, hint of match stick, you just want to continue smelling this wine. Taste is huge, lots of extract, great acidity, enormous length. Although taste is complex it is still a bit linear. That is not a problem because this wine is so hugely fresh and expressive. This is a great drink now, I am curious how this will develop further after more years in bottle.
White
2004 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Nose with butter, initially a bit restricted, opening up later, showing sweetness and yellow fruit. Taste lovely combination of fruit, minerals and soft acidity, appears a bit sleek initially (still in a closed phase?), the balance in the wine however is fabulous with the huge amount of extract underneath. This wine really coats the whole palate, resulting in a very long and beautiful finish. Great experience. Opened 2 hours in advance.

White
2004 Domaine d'Auvenay (Lalou Bize-Leroy) Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Nose with flint, floral, very lively. Taste a lot of extract, citrus, stone fruit, minerals, nuts, honey. Huge length, wine sticks to palate. What is remarkable about this wine is that the flavours start to expand in complex layers in your mouth after some time (like the peacock tail in good Musigny), resulting not only in length but also in widening of this length. Have never before experienced this in white wines. Impressive wine. Only 1210 bottles made.
Red
2005 Château Pavie France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Nose dark fruit, leather, plum and liquorice. Taste also dark fruit, still a fair amount of tannins, some sour tones. Very pure wine, enormous concentration, drinks already well, would be great wine for beef, burger and barbecue.
Red
1988 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
This wine appears still young in the nose, some very fresh dark fruit. Taste very pure dark fruit, at first a bit tight, integrated tannins. This 30-year old wine directly started with a very good impression, but it really grew on me during the evening when I revisited the glass regularly, during which it transformed in a truly great wine. The nose developed rose petals, the wine became silky. This is wow Bordeaux!

Red
1961 Château La Fleur-Pétrus France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Almost 50-year old Bordeaux. Surprisingly nose is still very fresh. Lovely mature taste and colour, fully integrated tannins, soft, some acidity. Drinks ever so easy.
Red
1964 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Bottle a bit over time. Still a beautiful nose, red fruit, complex layers. Taste red fruit, sour cherry, some floral tones, roses. A bit tiring.
Red
1978 Bouchard Père et Fils Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
Not good anymore. Mushroom and sweetness all that is left.
Red
1978 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Not good anymore. Bouillon and high acidity.
Red
1978 Daniel Moine-Hudelot Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Far in development. Still quite enjoyable I think, red fruit, sweetness, still good acidic backbone, good body, completely integrated tannins.
Red
1978 Gros Frère et Sœur Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
40-year old Richebourg, to my opinion already past its optimum. Mature nose and taste, deep flavours of red fruit, integrated tannins, spice, some sweetness, still fair amount of acidity. Nice to drink mature Burgundy
Red
2006 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
Big brooding wine, nose and taste dark fruit, plums, olives, some meat, lots of power but also clearly finesse and complexity. Great to drink now, has the potential to further develop in bottle for decades.
White - Sweet/Dessert
1975 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
Amber colour, complex nose and taste, stone fruit, sweetness, honey, spice, vanilla, botrytis in background. Lovely Sauternes, others thought it was not singing as it could or should.
