Red
1986 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Echezeaux
86 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 006091 / 14.112, Wilson & Daniels slip label. Level approximately 4 cm below the cork. Completely bricked through, no red left; maderised nose, no fruit expression but not too vegetal; nutty palate, no tannins left but retains its freshness, nice sweetness, has not disintegrated, pain d’épice, decent length. Not unpleasant but very evolved for age.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant
87 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 004024 / 10.640. Level approximately 5 cm below the cork. Very mature colour, still some red left; nice touch of orange zest on the nose, livelier than the Echézeaux 1986 which preceded it; quite fresh on the palate, retains its tannic structure, but tired.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant
89 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 004025 / 10.640. Level approximately 3 cm below the cork. Much better level than the previous bottle and a much livelier wine. Vestiges of spice box and floral fragrance, lively acidity with still a touch of tannins, relatively thin but lively, slightly separating, relatively short finish.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg
90 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 004086 / 9.120. Level approximately 4 cm below the cork. Sweet spices, mineral freshness, loses its expression quickly, but retains its structural integrity, quite peppery, lively and with good length.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg
91 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 004087 / 9.120. Level approximately 4 cm below the cork. Similar level as the previous bottle but fresher, lively and mineral, really crisp and still together, has line and length, remarkable.
Red
1987 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche
87 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 004365 / 11.186, Wilson & Daniels slip label. Level approximately 4 cm below the cork. Not unpleasant but maderised, vegetal, retains its structure and freshness but not its charm.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 006125 / 11.552. Level approximately 9 cm below the cork. Very bad level but not undrinkable, vegetal, old. Not rated.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti La Tâche
91 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 006126 / 11.552. Level approximately 3 cm below the cork. Much better level than the previous bottle. Energetic, seems tightly coiled, only slightly vegetal, hint of orange zest, lively acidity, nervous, undergrowth and rosehip, good length.
Red
1981 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti
93 points
Recently acquired, storage conditions unknown but probably mediocre at best. Bottle No. 001809 / 3.800. Level approximately 3 cm below the cork. It may be the context or the awe-inspiring name on the label, but this really was in a different league than the eight bottles which preceded it. Beautifully complex and complete nose, forest floor, amazing complexity, has such effortless line and length, floral and refined, long and juicy, still has a touch of tannic grip, "ruht in sich", intellectual and elegant, subtle finish, very good length. Amazing quality for a 1981.
