Flight 1 (9 notes)

White - Sparkling
1994 Schramsberg Vineyards Blanc de Noirs Late Disgorged USA, California
golden color with persistent delicate bead. Nose musty, a bit nutty. Palate apricot fruit, still some freshness; honey notes, a bit of richness. Very classy. If well-stored, still providing a lot of pleasure though obviously mature. 92 pts
White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 163eme France, Champagne
vigorous bubbles. light golden straw color.
Nose reductive at first, then broadens to a fleshy golden peach.
Palate broad, powerful, fleshy yellow fruit, some honey character, some minerals.
For this bottle at least, drinking very nicely, showing both power and balance, and still seems young. 93 pts

White - Sparkling
2009 Dom Pérignon Champagne France, Champagne
slate color with faint golden tinge, delicate bead. Nose smokey, honey with hint of maple syrup. Palate strongly mineral, some fleshy peach fruit; very nice balance with great power of flavor. The first bottle drained at our tasting, if that tells you how drinkable it was. Very appealing now but obvious upside. 94 pts

White
2013 Sadie Family Chenin Blanc Skurfberg South Africa, Olifants River, Citrusdal
light straw color. Nose waxy, some lemon notes. Palate vanilla at first; rich body, powerful, but a bit lower acid than I would have liked. May benefit from decanting. 90 pts
Red
1997 Calera Pinot Noir Mills Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Mount Harlan
cloudy ruby color. Nose sappy, candied red fruit; slightly musty -- definitely tastes aged. Palate candied cherry, some sweetness to the fruit; some earth. The palate was definitely better than I expected from the nose, and still offering a lot of pleasure. 92 pts
White
2015 Heitz Cellar Chardonnay USA, California, Napa Valley
rich golden color. Nose honeysuckle. Palate fleshy golden fruit, some lemon, hint of cream, strongly mineral; citrus pith with time. Good typicity and value. 90 pts
Red
2016 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Old Vines USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
transparent light ruby color. Nose some forest/earth, candied red fruit. Palate cool red fruit, slightly candied flavor, some earth. Very classic in style and nicely balanced, still young and needs time I think to unfurl and show its class. 92 pts with upside.

Red
2017 Yvon Métras Beaujolais Madame Placard France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
slightly cloudy ruby.
Nose candied cherries with a wildness to the aromas. Palate slight spritz at first, but better after a shake. Strongly mineral character to the red fruit, long finish.
Metras for me has been a minefield, sometimes dynamite and sometimes blowing up with flaws. This was a better bottle on that spectrum. 91 pts
Red
2015 Liquid Farm Pinot Noir SRH Radian & Sanford & Benedict USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
transparent violet color. Nose herbal, earthy. Palate light red fruits, silky depth; rocky minerals on the finish with very faintly chalky tannins. High acidity. Nice structure to this, drinking well now but curious to see how this does with a few more years. 92 pts with upside
