Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
1975 Martinez Bujanda Rioja Gran Reserva Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
86 points
Light brown color. Dried fruit, figs, vanila, tobaco and tomato on the nose. More tomato on the palate. Ok length with some oaky notes giving the finish a bit of vanila. Good balance between acidity and fruit, but lacking intensity and complexity.
White
2000 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre France, Alsace
91 points
Golden clear color. Aromas of spiced, boiled pear and some more exotic fruits. Delicious, full-bodied fruit on the palate, giving a good spicy taste, and some white pepper and rubber on the finish. Great lenght and balance. Very good wine although I personally would have prefered the acidity to be a bit more clear cut.
Red
2005 Sebastiani Vineyards & Winery Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
87 points
Red center and a purple rim. Intense fruity nose with strawberry, clearly marked by oak giving it a roasted vanila frame. On the palate it has a similarly profile, with warm, forward fruit, strawberry and a note of blueberry. On the midpalate some vanila and tobaco, before a warm, sweet finish with some tannin. Fruit-driven wine - a bit simple.
Red
2005 Spencer Hill Pinot Noir Coastal Ridge New Zealand, South Island, Nelson
88 points
Clear red color. Farmyard nose, with animal sweat and some earthy strawberry. More earthy strawberries and sweat animals on the palate, some tobaco coming along on the midpalate. Delicate and elegant in the mouth, although it has good balance with acidity and tannins.
Red
1999 Maison Leroy Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
90 points
Dark red color with a brick red rim. Delicate aromas of rustic, earthy strawberries. Beautifully complex. On the palate it has strawberry and red cherries, some tobaco comes along on the midpalate. The finish has a note of dried fruit. Very nice and elegant, with a farmyard note going through from start to finish. Good length, great balance with a mouthwatering fruit acidity.
Red
2000 Cuvée du Vatican Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
82 points
Red center with a brownish hue. Brett on the nose, and some rustic tomatoes and animal sweat notes. Appears very mature and the fruit seems to be starting to dry out on the palate now. Unfortunately the tannins are still quite powerfull, and I doubt that balance will occur at a later stage. Drink now.
