Flight 1 - Paul Pernot (11 notes)

Tasting with Paul Pernot ( the son, not father).

White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bourgogne-Aligoté France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Lemon and green apple. Lots of energy but enough richness for Aligoté to provide balance. Good+ for its level and price.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Chardonnay Bourgogne Côte d'Or France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Côte d'Or
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Floral and rich start with plenty of ripe orchard fruit. Very good depth for Bourgogne, 87-88 point potential. Pernot has been using this new designation since allowed in 2017.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. From 5-6 plots, including a large holding in Enseignères. Rich, ripe and fleshy with sneaky structure. Very good balance and depth for its level, especially impressive this vintage, 89-90 point potential.

White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru La Pièce-sous-le-Bois France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault-Blagny 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Mouth filling with rich apple character and plenty of apple flavors and aromas. Less vibrant energy vs the Puligny Village level wine, even if bigger. 88-90 point potential.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Garenne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Lemon and apple with textural brightness and precision. Good weight and fun fruit, best 2023-2030, 90+ point potential.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champs Canet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Slightly bigger and riper than Garenne, with a more complex array of orchard fruit. Good brightness here, this will reward another few years in the cellar, 90-92 point potential.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chalumeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Delicately floral start with apple and pear throughout, some lemon on finish. Bright like Champs Canet, but better length if not quite the heft. 90-92 point potential.

2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Folatières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Ripe orchard fruit, easily vibrant and slightly edgy. Vert long, lingering finish. I expect this will pick up some weight in the next year or three. I typically prefer this over Pernot's Pucelle in most vintages, but it is a close call in 2020, 91-93 point potential.

2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Substantially richer, but slightly less virant than Folatières. Good+ weight and length with very good harmony already. I typically prefer Pernot's Folatières over Pucelles in most vintages, but it is a close call in 2020, 92-93 point potential.

2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. Apple and lemon on nose and palate with intense Grand Cru density. Noteworthy bright ness throughout with a long finish that is stony and minerally. Very impressive already, impressive 92-94 point potential, 2025 forward.
White
2020 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Bottled July 2021. More aromatically alluring than the Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, while slightly ripe and more concentrated. Fleshy start, more firm middle through finish. Also certainly cellarworthy, but slightly easier to enjoy right now vs the Bienvenues. Also 92-94 point potential, 2023 -2035.

Flight 2 - Amiot-Servelle (11 notes)

With Antoine. Tasting was preceded by a quick tour of the impressive new winery down the street. Planned completion July 2022.

Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Bourgogne Côte d'Or France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Côte d'Or
87 points
Tasting at the domaine. Ripe but balanced fun fruit with a bright finish. Good right now, so easy to enjoy. 100% destemmed, ~10% new oak.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
89 points
Tasting at the domaine. Complex array of red fruit aromas and flavors. Bright and balanced start, firmer in the middle. Very good depth for its level. Lots here. An excellent Village wine. 20% whole cluster, 15-20% new oak. From 7 plots across Chambolle.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny Les Bas-Doix France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
89 points
Tasting at the domaine. Red and black cherry with more depth, less vibrant energy, and certainly more tannic (vs the Chambolle AC). From a 0.9 ha plot that is vinified on its own, with 5 barrels kept separate, and the remainder included in the Chambolle Village. I don't know if I prefer this lieu-dit on its own vs the assembled Chambolle, even if this might have more potential upside. This will certainly need more time.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Plantes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
90 points
Tasted at the domaine. Black and blue fruits here come across as fun and forward with some rich sweetness that should easily soften. Rounded and fleshy start-to-middle, then more firm on long-ish finish. Cellar at least another year or three. Completely destemmed.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
89 points
Tasting at the domaine. I surprisingly found this simpler and less dense than Les Plantes, even if fun and fleshy. 100% destemmed.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
92 points
Tasting at the domaine. Red and black cherry aromas and flavors that get redder towards longish finish. Sneaky power, this has a gracefully weightless finish with very bright, dancing textures. Tasty already now, very cellarworthy.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Borniques France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Tasting at the domaine. And now for something completely different. Like in 2018,100% whole cluster with zero new oak (just two once used barrels, so not actually fully "neutral"). Oak fermentation tank used here. Lots here, but patience required, with stem and tannins quite pronounced today. Good length, good finish.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
94 points
Tasted at the domaine. So much red cherry and berry everywhere that seems rich to start, but gets so bright and texturally brilliant from the middle forward. While not particularly dense (mostly younger vines here), but long and elegant. 57% whole cluster, 50% new oak. Best vintage of this wine I can ever recall tasting from this domaine. Bravo!
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
90 points
Tasting at the domaine. Entirely from Mazoyeres, 50% whole cluster. Ripe black and red cherry come across as fleshy but with firm tannins that will require patience.
Red
2019 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
Tasting at the domaine. Alluring aromatic start is nearly perfumed with a clearly ripe character. Flavors are also on the riper side to start, but the structure comes forward by the middle, providing a more balanced finish.
55% whole cluster, 50+ year old vines. So much here, but this will require patience to harmonize, but I think this might equal the quality of the brilliant Amoureuses, so possibly 94(?) point potential

2012 Domaine Amiot-Servelle Clos St. Denis France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos St. Denis Grand Cru
Tasted blind at the domaine. I thought this considerably older with lots of density (so thought Grand Cru) and meaty (so thought Charmes-Chambertin). Good overall.
