Flight 3 - Martinborough Vineyard Home Block Vertical (4 notes)
2013 is a great vintage, but a little faded now; 2018 is a little rustic due to the under average vintage; 2015 is just fine. Dry River shows unbeatable intensity as a top benchmark of Martinborough. all pinot noir were popped and poured one glass, the rest breathed for half hour in bottle. perfect pair to pork belly and roast ham.

2013 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir Home Block
New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
Medium ruby with slightly brick rim. Red/dark cherry and berries. Comfortable savoury notes, set floor and earth. Mild spices, herbals. All mellowed ver well, running smoothly, supple tannins but still grippy in finish, comfortable acidity. Alcohol warm in the end, which shows it’s just over the peak, lost a little concentration during aging. However, it’s a decent Martinborough PN.
20% whole bunch, 12 month in French oak, 31% new

2015 Martinborough Vineyard Pinot Noir Home Block
New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
Beautifully mellowed, fragrant and smooth, cherries and berries, rose, herbals, earth, all in a harmony way with a juicy fruity core. Fine grained tannins, m+/full bodied. That’s a perfect Martinborough Vineyard! Good concentration and length, flawless. Can feel the potential of further developing in the next 2-3 years.

Red
2014 Dry River Pinot Noir
New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
dark red. breath in bottle for half hour. still tight tannins, very dense and concentrated, dark fruits, packs of dark herbals, intense savoury notes, mushroom, earth and meat. a bit mineral and salty adding another layer on the complexity. grand structure, long potential ahead (another 7 years probably).
This wine shows how much can be extracted from NZ terroir (or just Martinborough), it shows a muscular style of NZ PN, has good concentration, strength, weight, length, full pack of flavours, and most important, a very high level harmony, smoothly running all together.
