Introduction

As always, we prepared and exchanged samples in the morning, and did the tasting late afternoon. Samples were prepared straight from bottle, without aeration or decanting.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

White
2011 Domaine des Enfants Côtes Catalanes Tabula Rasa France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes
89 points
Wine 1 of 6. The blend includes Grenache Gris, Grenache Blanc, Carignan Blanc and Macabeu. Medium gold. Apricot, dried pineapple, caramel, honey, and spice notes, with medium-minus acidity, and very good length. Full-bodied, with a smooth, oily and creamy texture. Drinks well.
Red
2007 Domaine Rimbert Saint-Chinian Le Mas au Schiste France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Saint-Chinian
86 points
Wine 2 of 6. A blend of 40% Carignan, 30% Syrah, and Grenache 30%. Medium garnet colour, Undefined red and dark fruit, earthy notes, herbal notes, light feral notes, light tobacco, and spices, with lively acidity, slightly coarse tannin, and good length. Medium-bodied, with average concentration. A little rustic. The acidity becomes more pronounced as the wine breathes. More plummy and spicy, and more angular on day two. Best enjoyed with food. Drink now.
Red
2007 Gérard Bertrand Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape Château l'Hospitalet La Reserve France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Coteaux du Languedoc La Clape
87 points
Wine 3 of 6. A blend of 40% Syrah, 30% Mourvedre and 30% Grenache. Pleasant, aromatic nose. Good, ripe, sweet fruit, lightly herbal, charred wood, spice notes and light liquorice, with medium acidity, round, partly resolved tannin, and good length. The broad and lightly sweetish finish suggest that the wine might have four of five grams of residual sugar. Not much complexity, and not much character either, but the wine has good fruit, and is harmonious overall.
Red
2011 Clos Centeilles Minervois Campagne de Centeilles France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Minervois
89 points
Wine 4 of 6. Mostly Cinsault, with a dash of Syrah. Medium garnet colour. Sweet red fruit, lavender, herbal notes, and spices, with medium-level acidity, mostly resolved tannin, and good length. Medium-bodied, balanced and harmonious. Consistent on day two. Drinks well. Ready to drink.
Red
2010 Domaine des Enfants Côtes Catalanes L'enfant perdu France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes Catalanes
90 points
Wine 5 of 6. The blend includes Grenache, Carignan, La Donner Pelut, Syrah. From old vines. Dark garnet colour. Dark, raisiny fruit, intense herbal notes, chocolate, and spice notes, with medium(-) acidity, firm, partly resolved tannin, and very good length. Nice old age sweetness. Consistent on day two. More raisiny than I ususally like, but somehow this wine pulls it off. Drink now.
Red
2009 Domaine Rivaton Côtes du Roussillon Villages Gribouille France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Côtes du Roussillon Villages
91 points
Wine 6 of 6. A blend of 70% Carignan, 15% Grenache, and 15% Syrah. Fairly tight, mostly about structure, yet quite enjoyable on day one. More open, and cocoa-driven from day two. Good red fruit, light feral notes, cocoa, espresso, and spices, with good acidity, firm tannin, and very good length. Great structure. And great persistence. Drink or hold. 91(+)
