Introduction

Various bottles drank at our lodge in the middle of the jungle in Northwestern Belize over 5 nights. All brought in by us.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Ulysse Collin Champagne Rosé de Saignée Extra Brut (2017) Les Maillons France, Champagne
disgorged March 2021. really full of Pinot noir spice, less sweet red apples, moderate body, in check acid to finish. I’ve like the few bottles of this I’ve opened and this follows.
White - Sparkling
2012 David Leclapart Champagne Premier Cru Cuvée L'Aphrodisiaque France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
acid with a red berry undertone (sour cherry), with 15 minutes of air the fruit really starts to push through with beautiful raspberry and apple notes, all with a great amount of acid supporting them. This is the most focused Leclapart I’ve had, and just a phenomenal champagne.
White - Sparkling
2015 Laherte Frères Champagne Grand Cru Le Mont Aigu France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Disgorged July 2020. A one off small
Trial of about 120 cases, the rest being put down to be an oenotheque bottling. Slightly tropical notes on the nose over classic orchard fruits, with a small hint of coconut (not sure if this saw ok). It has a very round feel in the mouth, creamy texture, classic lemon curd, a bit more of the coconut-y note as well. As it warms a little, a nice ripe Bartlett pear note comes into the mix, putting this in harmony.

Rosé
2011 R. López de Heredia Rioja Rosado Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
watermelon and strawberry up front, navel orange, a little other citrus, the oak influence and spice hitting on the finish. Definitely unique and nice to drink, though not at the current tariff for me.

White - Sparkling
2002 Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Coeur de Cuvée France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
(side note, one of my favorite cap designs in champagne). Still a high acid champagne. Starting to develop some toffee and bruised apple notes, with a bit of baking spice on the finish. This is starting to enter peak maturity, absolutely joy to drink.
