Red
2005 Rockford Shiraz Basket Press Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Everyone managed to guess this as an Oz Shiraz with dense, dark blue fruit. I really dislike wines with overt vanilla on the nose and chocolate on the palate. Too clunky and sweet.

Red
2009 Chris Ringland Shiraz Dimchurch Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

Even darker ruby in colour than the Rockford, I didn't place this as a Shiraz but thought it was an Aussie Cabernet. Another powerful, full-throttle kind of wine that was marginally better than the Rockford, but that's not saying much. A little syrupy but the alcohol and oak were slightly more integrated.
Red
2010 Château La Conseillante France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Liked this a lot. Surprisingly old-school and a little more evolved than I expected for the maker and vintage. Very elegant and had a traditional rustic earthiness to it. Slightly plummy that made me think right bank but still a very well-balanced wine with good concentration.
Red
2005 Château Beychevelle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Quite classic and restrained with cooler dark red fruit, so I went for 2006. Textbook Bordeaux left-bank, enjoyed the savouriness of this.
Red
1999 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
89 points
Showed a little older than I thought it was with some tertiary mushroom notes and a cardboard note that made me wonder if it was corked. Together with the rusticity and hard tannins, I went for 1995. Not the most exciting wine and a little foursquare.
Red
2005 Château Lascombes France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
90 points
Liked the pretty and perfumed nose but the palate was a little disappointing. Attractive red fruit but the midpalate was hollow and had a clipped finish.

Red
1999 Château Haut-Bailly France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Compared to the Lascombes, the attractive red fruit here had greater depth and was more vibrant so I thought this was from a stronger vintage like 2000. Good acidity to the wine, very classic and enjoyable.
Red
2011 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
92 points
Had a very lifted, fragrant nose of red cherries that was quite clearly Italian but I went for 2011 Piedmont instead, oops. Liked the acidity and elegant, refined tannins, think this was better than the higher bottlings from this producer which can be overextracted and oaked.
Red
1997 Château Sainte Anne Bandol France, Provence, Bandol
87 points
My contribution. A little over-the-hill as the structure was fading and the tannins seemed fully resolved. Palate had tertiary notes of truffle, mushroom and some tobacco. Hopefully the older Tempiers I have age better than this.
White
2016 Domaine Dujac Morey St. Denis Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
91 points
Thought this was a Puligny from a warmer vintage like 2012. Had a mix of green and tropical fruit like pear and pineapple, slightly heavy and round mouthfeel while retaining good acidity. Pleasant enough and still very youthful.
White
2019 Domaine Fourrier Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
89 points
Didn't enjoy the previous Fourrier BB that I had and had similar impressions here. A little green but still had overripe fruit at the same time.
White
2020 Domaine de Cassiopée Bourgogne-Aligoté Mitancherie France, Burgundy, Bourgogne-Aligoté
93 points
My contribution as I've been wanting to try this producer. Loved the balance between the sharp acidity and ripe yellow fruit with a hint of honey. Exuberant wine, but with a lovely restraint, and a saline, mineral finish. These new-school producers definitely know how to get the best out of aligoté. From magnum.
White
2018 Paul Hobbs Chardonnay Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
85 points
All oak and butter that gave it a creaminess without sufficient acidity. Also had a strange, very off-putting sweetness.
