Flight 1 (5 notes)

Red
2004 Robert Michel Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
Earthy, medium intensity in the nose, dried cherries, currants, floral notes, light chocolate and coffee notes, smoky.
In the palate, the wine shows finesse, elegance, its smooth and juicy, red cherry, smoky again, decadent, a touch warm, peppery, fine tannins, medium to full body and long finish

Red
2005 Robert Michel Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
Heartier, heavier and warmer in the nose, the fruit is riper, cherry and berry, the oak is more upfront. With time you also get darker notes like licorice next to maraschino and sour cherry, elegant, decadent
The palate is big showing juicy black fruit, clove, peppery notes, dense tannins, full body and long finish. This one has a couple more decades to run

Red
2006 Robert Michel Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
Different to 2004 and 2005, this shows a sweeter, more “honey” note, caramel, ripe fruit, some pickle notes too, berries, cinnamon and clove mix
The palate is a touch more herbal, medium to full body, elegant with red fruit, nice tannins, soft but not dissolved, some cherries/spices in the back of the long finish
Red
2009 Domaine Vincent Paris Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
The wine feels bigger in the nose, more black fruit rather than the red fruit of Robert Michel’s versions. The wine feels warmer (14% compared to 13% of 2004-2006), some sour cherry notes, cinnamon, clove with graphite-like notes
Palate is big, dense, again rather warm, the fruit is again blacker, very fresh, full body, nice acidity, currant, cherries, licorice, peppery, long finish
Red
2015 Domaine Vincent Paris Cornas La Geynale France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
Bottles open 10.15 and tasted 14.00, no decant
The wine is a monster but precise, clean, very youthful, more spice than fruit, clove, black pepper, ripe black fruit, fruit in alcohol (but not hot), elegant in all its strength. With time, the wine turns into black fruit galore plus licorice, elegant but huge, huge but elegant !!
Palate is tight with juicy black fruit framed by oak, great tannic structure, huge density, highly concentrated wine, really youthful, long beautiful finish.
This is for the marathon rather than the long run
