Introduction

Anton, Jen, Anne, and Ben came over for an evening celebrating the end of the Appleton Farms CSA harvest and for some interesting wines. I finally broke out the Talbott which Ben and I originally tried over a year ago at the Skinner Auction Reception. Anton and Jen had never met Anne before and were pleasantly surprised by her entertaining irreverance.

Similar to my previous notes: Light golden color. Good bubbles. Nose of pear. Fruity palate of pear and apple. Good drinker.

Artisan cheeses and cured meats
Marcona Almonds

Light golden color. Nose of apple, pear, hazelnut. Similar palate with very nice minerality and acidity. Very well rounded and enjoyable.

Flight 3 - First Course (1 note)

Silky Butternut Squash Soup

White
1998 Tardieu-Laurent Hermitage Blanc France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage

Light golden color. Nose of apple, lychee, trace sherry. Similar palate with minerality, some hazelnut. Good acidity, but somehow missing something. I think the fruit was a bit faded.

Tasted from magnum. Beautiful garnet color. Nose of black cherry, kirsh with an earthy background. Palate of black cherry, earth and a hint of mushroom. Good acidity. Soft sweet tannins. This is drinking well at this time.

Flight 7 - Dessert Course (0 notes)

Apple Pear Gallette
Poire William Cognac Liqueur

Closing

As usual, it was a great night of cheer. After downing a Rock Star energy drink, I even had enough stamina to do all the dishes and 30 glasses before going to bed. It is always nice to not have to wake up to a blitzkreiged kitchen.
