Ruby tim, no sign of purple.
Intense toasty oak nose of (burnt) coffee which grew less intense and more sweetly perfumed.
Smooth sweet oak on attack, noticably high acid, drinking now, new world style, some warmth on finish.

Less vibrant colour than the 1999.
Calmer nose, slight undergrowth notes, more succulent fruit on midpalate, less ripe.
Perhaps a little simple

Like the 2001, oak a little too prominant, slight menthol element.
More body, tannin ends slightly astringent though, I think this is only just settling down and finding itself.

Fresh hot chili on nose. A lighter style than the other young wines, well balanced, smooth slightly spicy oak and dark blackcurrent and dark cherry, nice feel to it.

Significant bricking to the light cherry colour, mature.
Quite dump on the nose.
All very pleasant, medium-light body, some fruit remaining, not enough to this though, already past it?

Verging on brown.
Volitile and slightly oxidised.
On palate, very light fruit, not very nice though.

Dried fruit, prune and fig on nose, layers of fruit and tar.
Plump sweet candied fruit, orange peel and raisin, not overly concentrated. Quite special

Quite similar to the 1990, opinons were split as to which was preferred.
Very complex, again sweet plum prune and cherry notes, tiny hint of menthol, velvet tannin that just glides across the palate

Quite dark in colour, clear bricking.
A slightly dirty note to the nose.
Lacks the lush fruit of the 89 and 90, and suffered for coming after them.

Hard to pin the nose down, less dried fruit than the 89 and 90, but equally ripe.
Superbly balanced, very perfumed. Even more complexity on the palate than the nose. Very special.
Likely peaking right now.

Very dry nose, slightly thin.
Oxo cubes and dried fruit on palate, much of the pleasure coming from the maturity, this has stood up to aging better than many of the others.
Drink soon though.

This is slowly moving to maturity, gaining weight since I tried it last nearly a year ago.
Still showing crisp bright granny smith notes

Smoky oak, nice and bright apple, pear and quince.
Very good.

Very youthful primary fruit, light cherry and raspberry, a little too acidic though.

Very nice primary fruit, great balance, superb now.

Spicy Californian style, black pepper and concentrated blackcurrent, excellent, I really like this.

Way too much oak for me.
