Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
1997 Maison Leroy Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Last year, Ben thought this wine was dead, but is now reconsidering. the first notes off the nose are savory ones, Palermo's cheese pizza straight out of the oven. Musty saurkraut and quite a lactic quality on the nose. a decided note of (cheddar) cheese on the palate, but really the palate shows a much more deft display of minerality, with light spice on the finish accented with oxidation showing ever so slightly. Texturally there is a hint of it's age shown in a light wax textural note. Medium acid.
White
2007 Philippe Colin Bourgogne Blanc France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
quite a bit of fruit expressed in the nose. melon fruit, then citrus. across the palate it's all about the citrus fruit here. loving this balance. quite high toned citrus in the nose and then a quiet minerality in the finish.
White
2005 Philippe Colin Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Les Champlots Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
quite a toast in the nose and showing an elegant brine. spearmint in the nose. The oak adds quite a bit of weight to this wine, displayed as a supple textural cream on the palate.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

White
2005 Domaine Robert-Denogent Pouilly-Fuissé Cuvée Claude Denogent France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Pouilly-Fuissé
almost darkly honied in the nose, but not in a cloying sense. lean dark honey. the brown side of leesy. on the palate a peppy floral note (incense) and minerality. 'rapid maturation,' 'butterscotch' are called out from the crowd. long finish of pleasurable pond water.
White
2007 J.M. Boillot Rully La Chatalienne Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully
Cheerio nose as an oak expression, lemon citrus evolves in the glass. cheerio subsides and it's all lemon zest. lovely for $19.
White
2007 J.M. Boillot Montagny 1er Cru Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Montagny 1er Cru
elements of flint in the nose with a high toned oak vibe flying off as well. palate is very much mineral driven. sweet white candy and a really nice acid backbone.
White
2007 William Fèvre Chablis Champs Royaux France, Burgundy, Chablis
in the nose the chalk really sings. palate is very mineral driven with lemon citrus taking the back seat.

Flight 3 (3 notes)

White
2007 J.M. Boillot Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
i'm getting quite a lime/limestone expression. Lovely balance. thoughts of this limestone as being a fruity mineral expression with an acid component...discuss.
White
2007 J.M. Boillot Meursault Les Charrons France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
the nose shows an ethereal elegance. An elevated ghostly citrus presence. the afterthought of lemon fizzy candy. palate shows a bit more weight than the nose suggests.
White
2006 Domaine / Maison Vincent Girardin Meursault Les Tillets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
light kraut in the nose. suggestion of the richest 'fruit' this tasting. easily the richest. 100% new oak, but it doesn't really show in that fashion. lean meringue/marshmallow as an oak expression.
