2020 Turley The White Coat California White Rhone Blend

Our signature white blend of Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, and Roussanne, all white Rhône grapes. Ripe yellow fruits, candied lemon peel, spiced apple, cantaloupe, honeysuckle, and sun-warmed white stone. A quintessential winter white wine; rich and luscious yet fresh and well-proportioned. Would be exquisite with scallops or spiny lobster, drinking well now at 40°-50°F.

This totally surprised us with its beautiful fruit and its amazing depth. We never had a chardonnay this old that held up so well . We drank over 2 days. It was a great wine! I concur with member SCHIFFY's recent tasting note.

4/5/21, 7:24 PM - I wish I had been aware of Aubert in 2005. I think my "gold standard" then was Beringer Private Reserve.

Decanted partially and then completed the job later on. Found considerable solids. Need the Ah-So to remove cork which was still in great shape. Lots of leather, graphite, and sense of wood on the nose and in the bottle with the fruit in retreat. Let's hope there will be more fruit to come. Nice mouthfeel and aftertaste. Wine is a dark purple. It really shows no signs off being too old.

2/17/21, 11:29 AM - I believe I mentioned the fruit being gone which is another way of saying the a wine we previously found to have plenty of fruit now had next to none and therefore out of balance. Another member posted something similar and hoped that the retreat of the fruit was a short term issue.

Juanjo Moreno has produced this good wine using a blend of Godello, Verdeja, Albillo Real and Chasselas. Great example of how a natural orange wine is produced in Zamora, Spain.

5/21/20, 7:40 AM - Thanks for your posting on CellarTracker. Generally speaking a score of 51 means a wine is undrinkable and horrible. Are you sure you meant this? Your words seem to say it is a nice enough wine.

Not a chardonnay fan, but this is concocted without all the oak and butter of the typical nasty chard. Still very crisp, light, with complex but muted spring fruit. Last one, and wife almost snuck it by me without giving me a sip.

I like this much better than K does. Very different style than Austrian GV. A bit creamier and not as vegetal. Tasty, small production, interesting wine. Would love to see where this is grown on Sonoma mountain.

First box arrived to day.
Must open one, curious about the Bevan I am.
Came around 3:00, decanted, just a small taste to make sure I wasn't waiting for crap.
1st impression was good.
First glass.
Nose reeks of dark fruit and whiffs of cigar.
First sip, Fruit, black pepper for an instant, than some plum.
Nice ballance, but enough acid to make your saliva pour out.
Tannins say hi remind me of Rutherford dust, I like.
Long finish, leaves a trace of leather bound dehydrated berries.
Big wine, if the other 2014 Bevans are this good, me happy

10/12/16, 9:08 AM - Thanks for your report. I just got my shipment today! I cannot open these for a long time. We loved Ontogeny immediately when Victoria poured some for us during a visit to the old setup in Santa Rosa.

Drinking very nicely but doesn't have the depth I normally find and love in the Carlisle Zins.

Beautiful wine tasted on terrace at Vero Beach with salmon
BIG on fruit, round and smooth with blackberry, currants, hints of spice
mixed with dark fruit, lingering long finish with an elegant feel.
I love this one !!!

10/28/15, 8:52 AM - This sounds like you are describing a true pinot noir rather than the rosé.

Man this is hard to rate. There is a string of these wacky Moldavian wines available around - either the "In Paper" line or this "Moldavian Sun" line, that look like rustic wine jugs. The sticker in Croatian claims a different ABV, says that it's 11.5%, not the 11% that the original sticker claims, and that it's sweet, not semi-sweet... And I do believe them. This pours a paaaale yellow body. The aroma is a pleasant fruity blast - miles from what one would expect at this price and level. Agrumes in sugar. The taste is simple, agrumes, elder, sweet, sugary and yet tasty, easy to drink. No inherent flaws here. It's quite enjoyable and I can't force myself to rate it higher than this. I guess it deserves a revisit after I try some more. In any case, for at that price level, it beats any local wine in my opinion.
  • lvjohn commented:

10/23/13, 5:25 AM - Agrumes to you means "citrus fruits", I take it? Agrumes is French, not English and most English speaking people are probably confused by your use of this word. By the way, your written English is really very good and the availability of Moldavian wines suggests that you don't live in the United States.
