Restrained fruit on the palate. Good acidity and minerality.
Needs food to show better.
But having read so much about this producer I was expecting a bit more.

Tasted and re-tasted multiple times over six hours, these seemed to go through three phases. This started out well spiced and floral, clearly big and ripe, but balanced enough, seemingly through its sheer force and size. That balance seemed to give way to more flashiness after two hours, with a warmth on finish that didn’t thrill me when juxtaposed with moderate acidity. An entirely different wine emerged four hours later. Floral charm had always been present, but balance re-emerged with red and black cherry, sweet and savory spice and impressive depth. My biggest reservation is it still seems to have less acidity than I’d prefer. 91 points to start, 90 points mid-afternoon, then 92-93 point potential finally in the evening.

Gareth's N Rhone vs SA Syrah; 6/3/2023-6/4/2023 (La Cabotte): This was oh so young but interestingly, it felt far less like infanticide than the 15 Mullineux did, there's a joyous intensity here and I'm not sure how it would age. One of my fellow diners pointed out that this went best with the cheese - fair point, and while it's in no way porty, i wonder if there's an underlying sweetness there.

Very disappointing. Dominated by over-mature notes of prune and cooked black fruit. Of course it is drinkable, but very disappointing. I’m wondering if I should start drinking my Bartolo Mascarello’s at the 10 year mark. What are your experiences??

Cooler on the nose compared to the overripe 05 side by side. Bit of cranberry. On the palate fine texture, a distinct pomegranate note (which later on I picked up again in the terrific Suchots 10), ripe but balanced and long. Best of the 5 Orveaux that evening - just edging the 12. This is terrific now but the best is yet to come. 94++ Confirms again that 2010 is the vintage of recent great vintages for red Burgundy.

This has been open for two and a half hours. We drank this along side the 2009 Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée and by comparison, the Lamy-Caillat is way leaner/lither. This is also quite a bit lighter in color. Yeah, this is half as old as the other, but this '14 feels like it could have been bottled yesterday. It is incredibly compact in all aspects, and I love that about it. Sebastian Caillat makes this in a way to age it a long time, so this is to be expected. The notes on the nose are gorgeous, though... lemon rind, lilies and other flowers. The aromas are very on point and very pretty, but they aren't luscious; it's very angular and tight. It's like an apple skin with an almond shell. The palate intensity is absolutely incredible! Wow... intense, robust, compact, elegant... the whole time its in the mouth it just feels like it's this tight compact ball but it's bouncing around everywhere at a million miles per hour. It's dancing in your mouth incredibly quickly. It's just so pretty. The finish is this massive wall of acid... it's almost all acid. Some lemon and very tart green apple skin is there. The acid stays there for a minute, though, ripping your face off. When you sit down and really pay attention to the palate, this wine has supreme elegance... but perhaps right now, it's too young for it. When I was just drinking (not noting) this and the 2009 Fontaine-Gagnard, I think I liked the Fontaine-Gagnard more because it was just more ready... this one is not quite ready, but when paying attention and seeing where this is headed and all that's present, this is clearly a "more there" kind of wine. There's more layers in this Lamy-Caillat. What a beautiful effort and vintage.

Very pale. Quite expressive and almost tropical on the nose with melon and lime. Lighter and leaner on the palate, some pear. The tropical flavours are balanced with a freshness and zip. Lovely, but a clear change of style here, stripping away some of the traditional PYCM luxe. ***

Side by side the 09. The 10 was noticeably less developed than the (borderline premoxed) 09. Colour was a lot lighter, the wine had a superb freshness and minerality and was possibly a bit leaner than when previously drunk (back then rated 96). Fine notes of white nectarines. Got better and better with extended aeration. Based on this bottle another 2 decades in the tank easy and should hit sweet spot in 5 years. A long term proposition and although the better wine than the 09 the 09 is probably the more enjoyable today. The 10 is maybe not quite that typical Meursault as it isn't quite as fat as some Meursault lovers might want their Meursaults.

My first time trying wines from Albert Grivault, a small producer based in Meursault. The 2014 Albert Grivault Meursault 1er Cru Clos des Perrieres is their flagship wine, pretty well-made but nothing particularly distinctive, in fact it reminds me of Louis Jadot White Burgundy (which isn’t bad at all!). Racy acidity with lovely buttery toast. (88/100)

The nose was gorgeous, with lifted aromas of dried roses, pomegranate, cranberry, tar, dusty cedar and spice. On the palate, I found soft, silky textures, offset by tart raspberry with zesty acidity, as notes of licorice, minerals and dark inner florals filled the senses. The finish was long, fresh and understated, with lingering fine tannins, rosy floral tones and hints of dried strawberry. It’s so feminine and lifted yet tense and poised for the long haul.

wow... I can't believe how good this wine is. People have long been complaining the lack of money for value burgundies. Hey , here it is. Amelia berthaut has definitely transformed the wines and this is definitely a sleeper in the market. We are having a horizontal lavaux st. Jacques with Rousseau , duroche, denis mortet and berthaut in the line up. Berthaut's LSJ offers beautiful bouquet, it makes a lot of us thinking a wine from Bizot. Good concentration, very forward and kind of enjoyable already. It was the second best LSJ in the night after Mortet, Rousseau came last. Not able to find it in UK, for some reasons.

We were invited to another family dinner with our friends at Shatin 18 at the Hyatt Regency Shatin. The restaurant has chefs visiting to prepare and serve Peking Duck so apparently a treat. The Pommard paired perfectly with the Duck and was not overwhelming for the other, mostly seafood/fish, dishes. Very versatile wine. Still dark red with only a hint of rust around the edge. Floral and flowery on the nose with a touch of sous bois...we would prefer more veggies. Silky, slinky, alluring in the palate and finish. Think Marilyn Monroe seducing JFK ;-). We are big fans of Chateau de Pommard...despite the fact they cocked-up our order last year...a less than fun story.

A real elegance to the wine. Certainly benefitting from the reduced amount of oak now being used. Interestingly, some stems were added back in for fermentation in 2009 vintage.

An intellectual experience more than a hedonistic one, this nevertheless has managed to keep hold of the guts and terroir you would expect of a Grand Cru. Beefy, soupy with meat, fennel, spices and black cherries. Holding on reasonably well, although the finish lacks the depth of a truly great Grand Cru.
