Quite lovely. No sense of where this wine is on its aging curve, but very good with Vietnamese food at Doi Moi in DC. Softer, very rich with light citrus and floral notes. Well balanced. Lovely mouthfeel. Clean finish. Not at all oxidized. Still has years ahead of it.

8/6/17, 1:00 PM - Stevehyde -- I had the 2004 Musar Blanc last night and it showed very similar to the 2001 we shared -- I made the comments about how clean it was, compared to some of the Musars Rouges, and the lack of oxidative notes. It was delicious at a new Italian spot and really accented both the earthiness of some manila clams with pasta and some heat in puttantesca sauce complementing octopus -- so a very versatile wine!

2001 Fattoria Poggio di Sotto Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese

This was lovely, elegant, on the lighter side of Brunello, even from a PdS perspective. Bright sour cherry notes, tobacco, spice, the tiniest bit of funk, and a saline quality that really came across with some Spanish ham. It's certainly ready to go, but on a high plateau of maturity. Absolutely loved the wine. I'll be interested to try this sometime soon alongside some recently acquired 01 Pergole Torte and compare Giambelli's (z"l) great work side by side, and test my hyphothesis that this will show similarly elegant against its chianti cousin...

Luca Roagna, be my valentine! This wine shows the greatness of this vineyard and the talent of this winemaker in a year that had plenty of challenges. The wine has the treble notes of winter space accompanies by base notes of iron and red clay. Warm, sweet and round on the palate. The chewiness of the warm vintage tannins are resolved and the wine is really firing now. Not one of for the ages, but delivers a heck of a Serralungan punch in a complete wine at a fair price point. .

Nice showing and nice counterpoint to a Juian Haart feinherb. Great precision, lithe, tension, lemon peel, pink grapefruit, fruit kernels supported by cool acidity.... No signs of any petrol, so still quite youthful. I think this has great aging potential

Trying another bottle after my odd experience with this wine at Antonio's La Festa. Open 30 minutes in the decanter: To my nose, it smells strongly of cherries and vanilla. In the mouth, the wine is sweet with an undercurrent of tannin and a long cherry-licorice finish. It is a beautiful wine. After 3 hours: Continuously changing. Now the nose is all black plums with hints of licorice and tar. Gaining weight and thickness with air. The tannins are a little tart and the finish is long. Needs 8-10 years to really show its stuff. Excellent value under $60. 93-95 points.

9/7/13, 3:34 PM - Dottore Ken -- I loved this wine at La Festa. It was dried rose petals ans crushed stones. I'm just picking up a load of wines and inventorying, will have to try one of these before putting this in hiding.

This was one of the stars of Gallone's Festa tasting in NY in April 2013. Beautiful, perfumed, crushed stones and roses, a great effort from this somewhat unde the radar house.
