10/16/21, 4:09 AM - if impossible to find, which Belle Helene vintage do you suggest to find and cellar? 2015 or perhaps 2010?
10/21/21, 3:40 AM - I did and currently none available on wine-searcher. I had already tasted the '99 (see note 09/21/19) and all in agreement it has a long cellar life.
6/11/20, 2:57 AM - stacking up cellar with '01 vintage; read our previous notes. this will likely surpass '91 vintage (of which steve tanzer rated 97; he is a very tough critic when it comes to new world juice). this might turn into a rock star in 5-10 more years. petit verdot shines through like medoc pauillac juice
6/7/20, 4:39 AM - when you hear montrose you don't think of 1982, 2000, or 2005 vintage like you do with other bordeaux. yet, their '89 '90 and '03 are spectacular
11/25/19, 6:02 PM - Wait, what?!psmith you suggested price of a bottle of Jaboulet Chapelle will buy you a case of '90 Chave?1?! let me get this straight in order to make sure we are comparing apples to apple; you are talking about '90 Chapelle versus '90 Chave Hermitage, right?WRONG and no freaking way!
6/28/18, 12:34 PM - Jeff,You are generous with scoring wine, but not this particular one. This '10 Roberta's Reserve was given 98+ by Tanzer. Stephen Tanzer is known to be very strict on high scores and had never given a triple digit score to any wine before. I suspect this "Merlot thing" explains difference between 95 and 98+. Thanks for all your tasting notes.V
4/24/18, 6:04 PM - At age 20, standard 750ml bottled wine has just entered a drinking period towards its prime. From double magnum? Too young. I am a little envious, though!!!
4/10/17, 5:34 AM - Many critics believe the California '97 vintage may not last long and therefore recommend to drink up sooner than later. Sounds like this Montelena bottle argues against that.
4/1/17, 5:47 AM - is this a review of 2004 or 2006 vintage? sounds like a typo
9/14/16, 6:46 PM - There appears to be a bottle variance factor in '90 La Chapelle. I have tried 1 bottle per year over the past 4 years. All bottles from ame cellar / merchant. Three superb, and one just above average.
2/27/16, 2:50 PM - What is it in this '95 La Turque that will make it better in a decade from now?
3/1/16, 9:35 AM - Thanks Jeff. It sounds like I could be happier if I pop my only '95 Turque bottle in 10 years from now.
8/25/15, 12:16 PM - Interesting. Ever heard of dumb phase affecting certain cabs same way it affects white rhone and barolos? Bob Parker must have gotten this one wrong. He said, and I quote last 2 sentences of his tasting note Dec 2009 WA # 186: [this 2007 should hit its peak in 5-7 years, and evolve for three decades or more]. Let's ask Antonio Galloni.
8/9/15, 4:06 PM - Sonoma, not Napa.
6/20/15, 4:24 PM - Even if we allow the "usual" bottle variation that originally existed in the winemaking process, your experience with multiple bottles seems too discordant not to suspect additional factors. Curious to look for any common denominator for good quality bottles versus less quality bottles? e.g. direct upon release and owned by one merchant, versus a bottle with three different auction houses stickers?
6/13/15, 4:24 PM - what would you estimate the prime drinking window should be? drink now or throw in cellar for 15 years? thanks
5/24/15, 6:50 PM - if you gave positive input and a score of 96 why did you choose "do not like" option?
4/21/15, 10:34 AM - Do you think it will head into a dumb phase anytime soon?
4/21/15, 11:59 AM - Because I have 3 bottles I paid high $ when I bought them in 2005! I didn't want to take chances. Thanks for your prompt reply.
4/22/15, 10:00 AM - I popped a bottle of their "inaugural" Belle Helene 1995 back in 2010 and it had just started to open up. I still have few bottles and a magnum. I will try a sip (now that I have coravin) next time wife is roasting prime rib. Let me know if you are interested and I will ship you a bottle !!
12/22/14, 4:47 PM - Please be kind and post video of Coravin use when you have a chance. I have used it for a year and skills continue to evolve. You might want to consider different caliber needle (sold separately, or discounted in a set of 3 different calibers). Thanks - George.
11/6/14, 7:34 PM - Potential for ageing? Lots of california cabs are big and bold today, oak and alcohol tomorrow!
8/5/14, 5:49 AM - This tasting note belongs to '98 Greenock Creek Roennfeldt SHIRAZ, not Cabernet. Please cut and paste in the right place (link below):https://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=14581Thanks
10/7/13, 5:32 PM - A wine so enjoyable such as this one won't have a chance lasting a whole month! Thanks for the advice. Bob Parker considers Coravin a "transformation in the history of wine". He mentioned that when he hosted the Coravin inventor Greg Lambert (MIT graduate). Greg pulled some wine from an Ermitage Blanc bottle in 2008 and re-taste it again with Bob Parker May 2013. According to both folks, wine was well preserved. Watch:http://www.erobertparker.com/members/rparker/rp27.asphttp://www.erobertparker.com/members/rparker/rp28.asp
5/14/13, 12:37 PM - Ever wondered about a "dumb phase" this wine might have? Well documented for Bordeaux and Rhone but certainly not unheard of for others including CA cab and Piedmont. If subsequent bottles continue to show improvement, then this disproves the bottle variation theory. My 2 cents on the subject (refer to my note 10/7/2012).
Thanks for letting us know about this problem. We will review your comments and be in touch soon with an update.
