Weeknight Tasting (Dave's House): This is what I get for impulse purchases. While browsing the LCBO, I see that this had gone on sale, marked down to about $40 from about $50. Despite being of the 2008 vintage, I decide to give this a whirl. What a mistake, as this was absolutely terrible. We popped and poured this one. The nose showed extremely offensive oak treatment upon opening, giving way to cedar, vanilla, spice and some dark fruits hidden behind the oak. On the palate, more of the same; dark fruits, oak, vanilla, brown sugar. Quite sweet, lacking any sort of acidity. Finish is moderate. I see there are a few of you out there who have this bottle. I would highly recommend returning this.

Earth followed by stems. No fruit. No improvement with time. Not enjoyable

Thought this was really nice but a bit closed. Waiting to see what it will be like tomorrow.

Had some more at lunch time and it certainly did have more fruit flavors. Adding 1 to my score for a 91. As was pointed out to me, this needs a little breather.

2/5/13, 8:27 AM - I agree with Frank. Last time I had it, I double decanted 8 hours prior to service and it was singing right out of the gate. In contrast, a pop and pour before that did not show well until about hour 3 in a wide bottom decanter.
