Deep garnet, fig, date, earth, with plum, iron, and pencil lead underneath, medium acidity with lean and dry fruit, earth, and well integrated tannins, finishes is a little short with more dried fruits, orange rind, earth, and lingering salty pomegranate notes

Note: Fun wine for the price but the super high scores (96 by Parker) confound me a bit, I think the CT community is closer to reality

10/19/23, 5:51 PM - Thanks WineGuy, I should have specified the high pro scores, I've corrected the oversight

Medium garnet, well-stated nose of butterscotch, caramel, woody/earthy notes, followed by hints of cherry, and spice, sweet on the palate with dark, burnt caramel, fully resolved tannins, medium acidity and a little heat, finishes with lingering gingerbread notes, caramel, wood, allspice, orange rind, and more

Notes: Purchased from a reputable retailer about 2/3 into it's life, seemed to be a good bottle with no signs of leakage or oxidation

8/19/23, 2:00 PM - Probably more info than you were asking for but here goes. To preserve the little fruit that might be left in old wines, I don't typically decant. But what to do with all the sediment, you ask? I usually let the bottle stand, upright for at least a week and then, using a Durand, open and gently pour, straight from the bottle. As the bottle gets toward the final pour, I use a strainer, or just leave it as an offering to gods. Enjoy.

Slight barnyard aromas laced with cherry and other sweet red fruits but not much to it, similar to an off year village level burgundy

Red
2010 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Guettes Pinot Noir

Medium ruby sliding toward deep ruby, pomegranate, truffle, powdered cherry, star anise, spice, and hints of stem on the nose, primary cherry driven fruit on the palate with hints of earth, soft tannins, medium plus acidity and driving mineralality, finishes with red berry fruit, a little beef steak, cherry, chalk and more

Note: good now but undoubtedly a long life ahead, my tn could have easily waxed on about the quality of the '10 vintage, how Bize is a super bargain, how I would love the chance to put this Savigny-lès-Beaune in a blind tasting with the biggies, but the reality is, if you don't already have this wine in your cellar, you're late to the party.

8/31/21, 9:58 PM - Tasty now but still very primary, best guess 2025-2040

Light ruby/orange with heavy bricking, subtle nose of stewed cherries, coca, vanilla bean all with floral-like delicacy, big powdery red and dark fruit on the attack followed by teethy tannins and medicinal notes, finish is long and dark with lingering cherry, blackberry, blood orange, tar, iron and a petroleum note that doesn't let go

5/18/17, 9:08 AM - Not disturbing at all, I would say I like the wine but maybe not as much as other Barolo producers
