9/10/10, 4:11 AM - Brnshj22, the problem for me with this wine is that, on the two occasions I had it, it comes across too stringent and lean. Some might argue that these characteristics are exactly what you should expect in an entry level chianti and while I might agree with this statement I find this wine UNcharacteristic chianti-wise in that the little fruit it has is leaning towards strawberry and tutti-frutti as opposed to the classical cherry stone profile I usually associate with chianti. Also, I must disagree, that you cannot compare the entry level chianti with the riserva from the same house. Of course you cannot expect the same wine but it should tell you something about the quality and style of the house. In this particular case, I find this not to be the case. To me, the entry level chianti is a mediocre wine (compared to other good producer's entry level chianti; Querciabella, Fontodi, Riecine to name a few that surpass this by several lengths) whereas the Petresco is a superb example of a chianti classico riserva on par with the riservas of the aforementioned houses.
