Tinted sparkle with deep garnet looks and juvenile radiance. Nasally brutal blueberry marmelade paried with an obstrusive bramble infusion – pretty plumpy and not all to complex. Besides that some coffee, some chocolate and some black pepper. On the palate leaner with a certain tannin structure. Still a very solid mouth full of a big juicy and most of all infantile wine … with tons of Primitivo substitution potential

Not my first Pinot from Poland! Compared to the outstanding Riesling from Agnieszka Rousseau – it is really the oenologist's name – this Pinot has some little glitches. The dark cherry material appeared a bit very green and not ripe to an extent I'd be in favour of (and I am actually much more team: not fully ripe material, please). A lot of salt though - still from the top of a salt mine. A lot of smoke, menthol, parsley - the not so nice one, liquorice and a bit of this and a bit of that. On the second day a little bit more appealing an a bit more willing to integrate - ... I will try another vintage!

100% Lalvari from Armenia's northern Tavush region – right in the shadow of Lalvar volcano. Fermanted and aged in Armenian oak for 18 months. Super pleasing package which is packed with fragrant white blossoms, ripe quince, very cunningly peeled hazelnuts, mild – very mild – caramel cream and some crispy woodruffness. Outstandingly unique wine with a very convincingly extra mild ouillé character

Another highly thrilling Armenian! This time made from Ararat's white-golden blood: Voskehat. Interestingly bright bleached hue of slightly oily substance. In the nose lime blossoms, almond blossoms, white peaches, chalk, Bavarian lemon creme and fine matchbox spice. Astoundingly convincing! On the palate quite creamy with a very cunning structure with plenty of salt, colves, flint, saffron and a fruity melange of lemons, pears and white peaches. Indecently enchanting I need to say! Somehow like magnificent Poulliy-Fuisse meets Persian saffron milk – in a way fantastic

Amazing light colour with plenty of murkiness and brownish reflexes. In the nose floral raspberries, white pepper, dill, cucumber in very cool attire. On the palate very vital, very playful, very crisp, tons of pomgranate, some raspberries, tea, sellerie, dill, white pepper, cucumber peel with very fine tannins – and not as polerizing as some of you might expect it to be.

Ranging from fresh cookie batter to salted beetroot. Or from ripe dark red forest berries to spicy juniper. Or even better from smelly cowshed to a sea of lovage. Every mentioned aspect is represented in this Pinot. The last range from rock sugar to crude earthiness might not be the most fun though – still quite decent ... in a way ... if you are not highly sensitive to sugar. This was by far my biggest problem.

Was für Rosen? Keine Ahnung!

In the nose I got razzy marmalade, crushed rose hips, linseed and a hint of smoke. Overall quite a boiled character. Perhaps accompanied by one or two imagined ladybugs. Unfortunately quite muffled as well. Reminded me of cheap Kiwi supermarket Pinots from Marlborough. At least it kinda smelled like Pinot! On the palate: acid - plenty - apple vinegar style. It's body was straight out flat. Showed … at best … only very very shy resemblances of structure. No depth at all! Very fruit driven and super soft, besides the already mentioned acid punch of course! Rich raspberries - luckily not that boiled, traces of kids cough syrup, cooler bramble and unlike the nose absolutely no rose-hip at all. Super short! Zero subtle! Not really sappy either. At least mostly dry sensation! To me it was a complicated dealcoholized techno fruit juice without appeal. Maybe the best alcohol free wine of my life … at least it smelled like Pinot. Having said that, I had far more convincing grape juices from Merlot or Muscatel in my life! Sorry to say: Absolutely no alternative to real Pinot Noir! Unfortunately!

Gusbourne's Brut Reserve from 2018 is a classic champagne'ish mix of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier from chalk. It's hue showed bright adolescent radiance with little pink'sh sparkle. In the nose I got plenty of white roses and elder flowers, shy brioche, red apples, plenty of ripe strawberries, assorted nutty pastries and traces of orange oil. The ripe strawberries showed their bounty of shimmering aromas even more eloquent on my tongue. Same for the red apples – paired with some yellow pears. There was a fine portion of salt, restrained brioche and a bit more open hazelnutty pasteries with strawberries on top. The chalky mineral characteristics were accentuating this really convincing impression. Its body was quite refined and toned. Not all to big! However very fairly long. The mousse was very vital, perhaps almost a bit too oral cavity invigorating – okay, this 2018 was obviously far too young! I was perfectly aware of this … I just wanted to go for it! Who cares! I don't! It was a lot of fun combined with serious substance (for the future)! Happy New Year Everybody!

The 2014 was understandably brickish on the rim. It showed tons of Mediterranean herbs, extra sappy blueberry juice and a lot of black earth. The sweet spot was it's perfect pretension of Domori's 80% chocolate. A downright sublime aroma! Besides that a wounderfully fitting straight acid boost and crispness to the moon and back. Actual subtlety wasn't this Dolcetto's strong suit. Its harmony and vitality were much more impressive. Perfect companion for Pizza, really really good Pizza! Charming and very decent indeed!

The Gamay de la Vallée du Doux Combeaux Massardières 2019 from Domaine Guillaume Gilles showed relatively de-fruited aromas and a really strong earthy side. There was plenty of barnyard and horses, charcoal, tar - but no tarmac, licorice - but no rubber, black tea, colves and colver and overall more than a hint of too much alcoholic fire. The fresh cassis and the skinny bramble were quite restrained and shy. Rustic in structure and solid in depth. Too much inharmonious alcohol for me!

This one was serious squaller! Extremely loud and nerve wrecking. Tons of honey, some overripe lemons and hints of white flowers. Very simple, very chubby, very sweet!

This Ticinesi wasn't in the best shape I am afraid. It was relatively gaunt to skinny, showed plenty aromas of plums and brambles. Foliage, olives and hay weren't missing either. Not to forget black pepper. It also showed the usual chilly Alpine characteristics. But the structure was confusingly empty and it showed far too much sweetness for my taste. Was a rather strange experience! Maybe a defect ...

El Jorco 2017 Grenache by Vinedos del Jorco in Cebreros near Madrid was simultaneously a quite complex and challenging wine. It showed plenty of bold fruity vigour from ripe brambles, juicy pomegranate and earthy red currants. There was also plenty of dark chocolate, Kahlua coffee liquor, blood, orange zest, salt, horse sweat and rather malty whiskey. Complexity-wise not reason for complaining. Even the structure was firm, but already mildly mellowed. Unfortunately I got really exhausted by drinking more than a glass of it. In total a very demanding and intimidating wine. Especially the alcohol imprint was far to hefty and nervous for me. Qualities are indisputable!
