Reiterate previous reviews, although the bouquet has taken on more elements of petrol and earth. Dark chocolate (bitter) and cherries are now more prevalent on the finish. At or near peak and now time to drink!

Laurent notes that this maybe 18 months past peak. It does thin out somewhat on the palate, but as the wine aires, the sweetness of the fruit emerges. The fruit is fading and the cedar and herbs are showing more.
This should be drunk now as it will not improve in the cellar. Lunch with Laurent D. at Rothmann's.

4/21/11, 11:43 AM - PKNUT, I just purchased this bottle today and I plan on drinking it tonight. Do you recommend decanting for a while or should I just open it up decant it and drink it? I have never drank a bottle this old so any advice you have would be much appreciated.

Interesting Trentino wine (Borghetto), a Merlot-based cuvée (90 percent Merlot and 10 percent Carmenère), bordering a Bordeaux (Pomerol). The wine was aged for 14 months in barriques, followed by one more year refinement in the bottle. It shows a dark ruby-red color and a distinguished bouquet of black cherry, plum, tobacco and vanilla. The full-bodied palate mirrors the nose with lush dark fruit, sweet herbs and present but elegant tannins; alcohol and acidity are very well balanced. Long, peppery aftertaste with a little bitterness. Beautifully drinkable now.
