Zenato`s Ripassa belongs to the best of it`s kind. Concentrated Nose, some sweetness, alcohol, dark fruits, lively and clearly ripasso style. But there is something that disturbs me as well. Some oxidized bitterness is noticeable. Getting a good mouthful of this wine, it starts inviting and juicy, the tannins building up a nice structure, still medium bodied and not too snappy. It is fruity and nice to drink, but the bitterness is always around and puts something unexpected into the whole scenario. Had better ripassas in the past.

The Appassimento procedure adds some nice details to this wine. You get a bit more of everything. On the nose there are rich red fruits, ripe cherries, some balsamic hints as well, pretty clean overall. Tasty. The palate gets what you expect from the nose. Good balance, medium bodied, juicy with not too harsh tannins. It is a good Valpolicella, not close to a amarone, but well made with a very reasonable price tag. Go for it!
