Outside temperature: 17oC, inside temperature: 21oC, body temperature 36,4oC. On these conditions the wine performed very well. Decanted for 2h42 but i should have kept it for 2-3 minutes more. Big cork, size doesn’t matter though. Drinkable. Good wine.

This is my first moschofilero and I am a convert. This wine transported me to Greece. A nose of briny lemon and with some flowers, like having margaritas in a garden by the beach. And a pleasant tarty saltiness on the mouth, as if the grapes had been watered directly from the Ionian sea, with acidic hints of lime and passion fruit. It would be perfect if it had a bit more complexity. The finish is so long and salty, it’s almost sexual. A revelation.

8/30/21, 1:59 PM - Hi Echinosum! Thank you for your reply. Indeed, it is a special wine, my cavist had warned me but I had never expected it to that extent! By saying “ladero” (which does mean oily), I mean fatty, greasy “buttery” in texture which as you mentioned not classic features for a red wine. Let alone the note of chamomile (maybe green tea as well)!!! It is of those wines that I really don’t know how to behave and treat them, on one hand I like it and on the other hand I dislike it. Yes, I am an ardent supporter of PAOK and I am still laughing that you confused me being a PASOK voter :)))). Best wishes and best wines Echinosum. Γεια μας! (Yamas…which means Cheers in Greek). PS. For the sake of multilingualism and diversity, it is always good to comment in any other language than English. 2009 Château d'Yquem Sauternes Sémillon-Sauvignon Blanc Blend
Very sweet...too sweet for my liking. It wasn’t a dry wine as I expected. I just wanted a dry white wine to pair it with the frozen fish-sticks. It was the only wine standing alone in the cave of my boss, so I guess it wasn’t something important. Again, very very sweet!
  • PAOK Wines Brussels commented:

5/21/20, 12:08 PM - My boss died and I inherited his property (cellar included....nice scenario for film, isn’t it? copyrights reserved). I received some positive and negative comments to which I am going to reply in a separate comment. Anyway, that’s me, half people want to kiss me and the other half slap my face. By the way, I explored the cellar which is huge and I found a second Yquem of different year, this is now 2005 and the previous was 2009, so no big age difference, thus they should be the same. Indeed! Again! Very sweet! I can’t drink it. Somewhere I read I can keep it for years, I won’t keep it for years but until next winter for mulled wine.

Thank you for your message. I hope you and your beloved are healthy. Judging me and commenting on my personal qualities without having known or met me before is by far more regrettable and condemnable than one commenting on a wine for which it happens you have a different opinion. You called me stupid that’s why I demanded your comment is removed. I know you won’t do it again, that’s why you are still here and able to comment on my comments. Nobody is allowed to knock my door and insult me. Now, you are directly attacking me as a person and lots of your comments are targeting not on wines but on myself (hints on my class, on my language...really what is next? My sexual orientation and that I am straight?) I will continue letting you comment mine but you are on probation period. Be careful. I will not tolerate again any attack on me

You are my favorite preacher and English teacher by the way here. Because of you I learnt new words like asinine and that Yqeum is a sweet wine. You, how many languages, do you speak? I bet 4: English, American, Canadian and Australian, right? You perfectly understand me, your comment on my English skills is unfortunate and commenting on one’s English when it isn’t her/his mother tongue, it is as if you blame a blind person for not seeing. By the way, My accent is much better than my writing! Very exotic! (Everybody loves it!) I won’t teach you English but surely I will teach you that there are people with different opinions, likings and palettes.

Now seriously, could you please stop commenting on my comments? At least, store your energy for later. Stay tuned! More wine critics to come! The cave I inherited is huge and there hundred wines stored there. I have been bored of replying and repeating the same. This wine for me is a liquid wine jam. Good for jelly cubes for fois gras! The 1er Cru were a touch better than the villages, a bit more precise and fresh but overall 2018 is not a Chablis vintage for me. Too warm and unfocused, some wines showing even some candied fruit which I really do not like in Chablis.

In Europe, this is called fascism and we have learnt to destroy any kind of it. Read my past dialogue with her/him. It was for Château Haut-Brion 2016. Absolutely delicious! Dark, deep red color. The nose has ample fruit (blackberry, cassis, dark currant) with a background of incense, graphite and vanilla bean . Lush and expansive on the palate. This is better than most $50+ California reds. It is a stupidly great value at under $20. Just insane that a wine of this quality is under $20.

It is drinking beautifully now. Why wait? It will gain some complexity and hold up with age as well I believe

Very good bang for the buck! The varietal mix include all five white grapes of the appellation: 30% gros manseng, 30% petit manseng, 30% camaralet, 5% lauzet and 5% courbu.

The name is aptly chosen as it offers a veritable explosion of flavor and aromas, lots of tropical fruit, lots of spice, all against the backbone of a fat texture, stringent acidity and rather elegant finish. They suggest to pair it with grilled fish and you wouldn't go wrong for doing so, but we tried also with a flavorful risotto with wild mushrooms and salsiccia and the wine was by no means overpowered in that context either. Really nice, but even better on day two when it had calmed down somewhat aromatically, imho.
  • PAOK Wines Brussels commented:

10/18/20, 10:45 AM - I paired it with charcoal grilled gilt-head bream. Not bad but a bit aromatic for my fish. But this is very personal, I do prefer Assyrtiko or Sauvignon blanc with grilled fish with olive lemon sauce. Cheers mate, it is a great wine

  • PAOK Wines Brussels commented:

10/18/20, 11:58 AM - @Omar, hi mate, the fish I mentioned is very popular in Mediterranean, in French it is called daurade, in spanish dorada and in Greek τσιπούρα. It is widely sea farmed but when it is caught it is a sheer delight on grill. As for Assyrtiko, prices are sky rocketing. My preferences: Pyritis Karamolegos, Argyros and Gavalas but all barreled. T-oinos also barreled but not from Santorini. Best ever Assyrtiko out of Santorini, Theopetra partly fermented in barrel (and in half price than Santorinean Assyrtiko). I also find the SantoWines unoaked, a very good Assyrtiko at 10 euros. Also try some Thrapsathiri variety, originated by Santorini but being thriven in Crete. Cheers

By the glass via coravin at Armenaki, in Polonia, Milos. Probably the first glass drawn out.
This is indeed a very special wine and worthy to try on sight especially when offered by the glass. One should forget what retsina was and approach this with a clean mind. The nose starts of with vanilla and evolves into rosemary and of course pine. On the palate it is bright and assyrtiko is a good choice for acidity. It’s felt really like having a forest in a wine feel and a special one indeed. 90

Loads of aromas leap out of the glass; lime curd, grapefruit, pomelo. You can smell the tangy acidity.

The palate largely follows the nose, but there’s body and finesse. The acidity is so focused and intense that it slices like a katana. There’s a tiny bit of oak on the back end to go with some grapefruit pith. Harmony and lightness in abundance.

Perhaps the best CA Chardonnay I’ve had in a long while. If you’ve got $50 to spend on a new world Chardonnay that’s drinking great now but can take on some age, this is it.

Fruit is fresh and lively on the palate with a lovely acidic streak keeping things in balance. Mouthfeel has weight but not syrupy or heavy in any way, quite light on its feet.

As another taster noted, this tastes like quintessential PN. Red fruit, touch of loamy soil, hints of ground coffee, and then the usual spices - nutmeg, cinnamon, five-spice but nothing too prominent. A soupcon of orange peel on the finish. Perhaps the best value Sonoma PN I've ever tried. Bought at $20/bottle.
