Last night we had a vertical tasting of the ‘89, 2000, and 2005 with a Spanish tapas dinner. All wines were outstanding and surprisingly vibrant with a fruit core and distinct earthy, herby attribute typical of Gruaud Larose. We and our guests however found the 2000 marginally the best of the three. The 05 improved in the glass immeasurably in the glass and has more years to reach its peak.

Opened the next to last bottle 10/19/23. Showing signs of peaking with brown tinge on edges of glassware. Still has lovely fruit and earthy notes but opened up after an hour. Drink up the final bottle.

Second time tasting it at the winery. Better than the first go-round or maybe a bottle that had opened up longer.
Syrah notes shine through but as with other 21’s this is closed and tight, with lots of potential. Give it a few years.

Lush flavors of Carignan and Syrah. Seems tight but with lots of potential in a few years. I don’t think it’s fully ready to enjoy now however.

Opened and served with a baked ziti casserole. A truly beautiful and mouth filling cab. Glad I gave this some years in the cellar; the tannins have softened somewhat and the fruit core is still firm.
