I LOVE fresh Sauv Blanc right out of the tap. I’ve found my interest in SB waning a bit, to be honest; however, when you have the right one, it really hits the spot. I know there are some smoking jacket types who like their SBs with age, but I say nope to a bunch of that. I want this right now. Poppin New Kids on the Block fresh, with all the Right Stuff (not the astronaut movie, but the song…get it…? …anyway…). This 2023 is turned up to 11 compared to the 2022, with fresh squeezed everything amplified to perfect chord without ever coming off too loud. No noise here. Just a kickin hook with a catchy melody. Ice cold and perfect. Body. Acid. Poppin lime and honeydew notes playing dodgeball with a blade or two of grass. Finishes relatively smooth, indicative of a top white BDX. Drink now. Drink cold.

Agree with others that this is likely still in transition, and that it is currently more impressive than delicious. More backbone and class than the 2009. Great balance, it’s all there in the right percentages. And a long finish. If you can, wait for another 3-5 years with this one (maybe more). You’ll be proud of yourself if you do.

Whoa this is drinking fantastic at this time. Please give it an hour or so decanting to let the woody aroma dissipate. Then pour yourself a nice sized glass of this beauty. Boysenberry, lavender, camphor and spring flowers explode in the nose. Middle weight in the mouth, toasty French oak, chocolate, tobacco and cherry highlight the finish. Yum!

    4/24/24, 7:50 AM - Hey DQ,

I slow smoked a 24oz prime New York steak to 118 degrees then seared it in a hot cast iron pan with rosemary and sage , butter and a splash of oil. Went great with a baked potato and green salad. Wine paired perfectly.

I may actually be shorting this a point. I shared this with some wine friends and we had Duck Breast and citrus rice with duck and duck fat in the rice. This was an amazing match. I think the Wild Thyme vineyard is replacing the Blue Slide vineyard as my favorite Martinelli Pinot Noir. It is a big and bold Pinot with a great nose and a very long finish.

3/30/24, 5:09 PM - Agree with this becoming the favorite Pinot but the price increase for the latest vintage ($140) was jaw dropping. Think the previous vintage was $109…

Big wine. While you can enjoy it today, I’d hold it for at least another year.

Wanted to try it to get a sense of Nigel’s style. If his cabs are this big, then I’m not sure I’m a future buyer. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a flavorful wine, but my palate is changing more to old school.

Just a great bootle of rose that went down way to easily….

Classic aged Cabernet based blend. It's incredibly well balanced in a way that mimics a Bordeaux much more than a modern/current-era Cali cab. My last bottle of this was off, I'm glad this was delicious and somewhat complex. I've drank this vintage for 25+ years and it truly is one of the best QPRs out there. Estancia hit on all cylinders with this '94. I don't think they ever repeated. But a good bottle of this is a joy.

4/8/23, 1:20 PM - Just noticed your comments from drinking this Estancia last month. Definitely bottle variation but could be related to how or if it’s been properly stored.

I have another 750 and a nice 3L left. Not sure if I should hold the 3L a little longer for posterity or pop that bad boy soon to enjoy it with a bit of youth left.

    Cheers!

This wine is drinking superbly at this point but has plenty of tannins to age further - but why wait! Chocolate and spice flavors with dark berries.

8/12/22, 11:35 AM - Try a bottle with grilled prime hanger steak cooked medium rare, cut on the bias with chimi chiri sauce. Yum!
