Fortunately I didn't pay very much for this, but I probably should have sold it instead. Advanced.

Light reduction, orchard fruits, great balance. Quite delicious

(Not a) birthday dinner (Hinsdale, IL): I think I kind of get it now -- this drinks like Labet, and has a pretty steep tariff to boot. But it's quite reduced, perhaps overly so, and despite the fullness on the palate, it's tough to get through all of that reduction. There is good acidity and minerality here; and reduction notwithstanding, plenty of complexity.

Probably the most reduction I've had on the nose of a bottle of Ganevat. Palate has wonderful energy but this bottle is very young. Check back in 4-5 years.

Very... chenin. Lots of that lanolin and ripe fruit. Good for its style but I prefer a leaner more linear chenin.

Yeah this is legit. A hint of reduction on the nose with orchard fruits and oak spice. Great length and balance on the palate. Feels younger than 12 years old. Still some lemon on the finish. Tres bon.

Disgorged Feb 2018. A little underwhelmed by this overall. There is a lot of complexity here but somehow the whole isn't greater than the sum of the parts. Maybe it's still too young? Not bad, but not exciting me either.

11/21/23, 8:03 PM - Ah rats, was thinking a few more years would bring the magic.

Surprisingly dark fruited and less elegant than typical Metras. The 19s are a vintage to leave in the cellar for a while I think.

Glorious, for the money at least. The difference, at such a young age anyway, between this and a Felseneck is not worth arguing about. Schafer-Frohlich is extraordinary. Keller for showing off, SF for drinking!
